πŸ“± Released 2021 Β· A15 Bionic Β· ProMotion 120Hz OLED Β· LiDAR Β· Triple camera

ProMotion 120Hz, triple camera, stainless steel frame β€” the 13 Pro is still seriously capable at four years old and worth keeping in good condition. Battery replacements are our most common call on this model, screen damage second. We're stocked for both and the turnaround is same-day.

Sensor-shift optical image stabilisation β€” introduced across the full iPhone 13 lineup including the standard and mini models for the first time β€” moves the sensor itself rather than the lens group. This means the OIS actuator is part of the main camera module assembly: a drop that damages the camera module may affect both the lens and the stabilisation mechanism simultaneously. The ultra-wide lens on the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max gained a macro photography mode β€” a minimum focus distance of 2cm. The macro capability is handled entirely in software using the existing ultra-wide hardware, but a cracked ultra-wide lens cover or damaged ultra-wide module disables macro entirely. Macro is not available on the standard 13 or 13 mini.

Common iPhone 13 Pro repairs we see

The most frequent faults we diagnose and repair on the iPhone 13 Pro. Bring it in for a free diagnostic and we'll tell you exactly what's needed before any work begins.

ProMotion display issues

The 120Hz ProMotion panel can develop touch issues and display faults β€” particularly after drops. This is a premium OLED that is worth repairing to preserve the ProMotion advantage.

Battery approaching service

4 years of Pro use. Heavy users (ProMotion at 120Hz draws more power) often reach 80% faster.

Triple camera β€” lens cracking

Three rear lenses exposed on the large camera module. Lens cover cracking is one of the most common 13 Pro repairs.

Back glass cracking

Stainless steel frame but vulnerable glass front and back.

Lightning port wear

Pro users tend to charge and sync more frequently.

LiDAR scanner issues

LiDAR scanner faults affect Night Mode portraits and AR accuracy β€” diagnosable and repairable.

Known iPhone 13 Pro issues we see regularly

Camera module adhesive

The AB adhesive securing the triple camera module contracts with age causing module lift and flex cable tension. Re-adhesion resolves.

Face ID degradation

Same Move Higher / Lower dot projector issue as the Pro Max. JCID tag-on repair restores Face ID in most cases.

Battery at 4 years

The 3,095 mAh battery is approaching threshold on 2021 devices. Battery replacement significantly improves daily usability.

Known issues on the 13 Pro β€” read before booking

⚠ Rear camera β€” unusually fragile, high replacement rate

The iPhone 13 Pro triple rear camera system is notably more fragile than the equivalent module on the 12 Pro. The camera bump sits proud of the chassis and the lens covers are susceptible to cracking from surface contact and drops. The 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max cameras are identical and interchangeable β€” parts availability is excellent because of this.

If photos are still sharp from the centre of the frame, only the lens cover is damaged β€” not the module. Lens cover replacement is available at significantly lower cost than full module replacement. We assess during the free diagnostic.

⚠ White screen defect β€” AB adhesive failure, first ProMotion iPhone

The iPhone 13 Pro introduced 120Hz ProMotion β€” and with it a known issue with the AB adhesive bonding the OLED panel to the chassis frame. As the adhesive dries and fails over time, the frame lifts slightly and the display flex becomes exposed. This produces white patches, pressure marks, or bright areas on the screen without any drop or physical impact.

Screen replacement resolves the white screen defect permanently.

⚠ Face ID "Move Higher / Lower" β€” loose dot projector lens

The iPhone 13 Pro has a specific Face ID fault where the dot projector lens becomes loose inside its housing. The lens shifts out of alignment, and Face ID continuously asks you to "Move iPhone Higher or Lower" without ever completing recognition. The dot projector is not failed β€” the lens can often be re-cut and re-glued back into position, restoring Face ID. JCID method where the flex is involved β€” R1,500 if fixable.

iPhone 13 Pro repair β€” frequently asked questions

My iPhone 13 Pro rear camera module is cracked or the lens is broken β€” is that repairable?

Yes. The 13 Pro rear camera is unusually fragile β€” the most common single fault we see on this model after drops. Camera module replacement is available. Note: the 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max cameras are identical and interchangeable, which keeps parts availability strong.

My iPhone 13 Pro screen developed white patches without any drop β€” what is that?

A known defect on iPhone 13 Pro β€” the AB adhesive bonding the OLED panel to the frame dries and fails over time, allowing the frame to lift slightly and exposing the display flex. The patches appear as bright areas or pressure marks. Screen replacement resolves it permanently.

My iPhone 13 Pro Face ID says 'Move Higher or Lower' and never recognises my face β€” dot projector?

Likely the dot projector or a loose lens within it. We use the JCID tag on flex method to restore Face ID where possible β€” R1,500 if fixable. If the dot projector itself has failed, we assess whether the lens can be re-seated and re-glued. IR camera failure means Face ID is unrecoverable.

My 13 Pro won't charge on Lightning β€” Hydra IC or port?

~80% Hydra IC, ~20% Lightning port. Free diagnostic confirms which. Use Apple MFi-certified cables only.

My iPhone 13 Pro is stuck in DFU mode with repeated restore failures β€” NAND?

Error 4013 or 9 on repeated restore attempts on a 4-year-old 13 Pro indicates NAND flash storage failure. We replace using the P15 programmer and recommend upgrading to 256GB β€” board is open, upgrade cost is incremental.

Is glass-only refurbishment recommended on the 13 Pro's 120Hz ProMotion display?

Yes where the panel is working correctly. The ProMotion OLED is expensive to replace. Glass-only refurbishment preserves the original display and saves significantly. We assess condition and burn-in during the diagnostic.

Is the iPhone 13 Pro rear camera the same as the 13 Pro Max camera?

Yes β€” the triple camera modules on the 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max are identical and interchangeable. This is unique to this generation. The 14 Pro and later Pro models use different camera hardware between the two sizes.

Is it worth repairing an iPhone 13 Pro in 2026?

Yes. The A15, ProMotion OLED, and triple cameras are still class-leading. Battery replacement and screen repair are strong value repairs. For NAND or board faults we assess case by case.
