How we do it
iPhone rear camera assemblies from iPhone 11 onwards are multi-lens systems — wide, ultra-wide, and telephoto — with optical image stabilisation and sensor-shift on applicable models. Each lens can fail independently. The most common failure is physical: the protruding camera housing takes impacts that crack the lens cover glass, cause blur or fog from delamination, or damage the module itself.
From iPhone 15 Pro onwards, camera modules are partially paired to the logic board. Replacement of certain camera components triggers a 'Camera Unable to Verify' warning but does not disable camera function. iAssist uses OEM pulled assemblies and high-grade aftermarket modules — we stock both and explain the difference before quoting.
Blurry or out of focus photos
Most common camera complaint. Can be cracked lens cover glass, delaminated optics, OIS failure, or autofocus mechanism failure. Assessed under magnification before quoting.
Cracked rear camera lens cover
Lens cover glass cracked from drop impact on the protruding module. Allows moisture and debris ingress. Lens cover replacement is far less expensive than full module replacement if done promptly.
Black camera — won't open
Camera app shows black screen. Flex cable failure, module disconnection, or app crash. Free diagnostic determines cause — may be software-resolvable.
Camera shake / blur on video
OIS failure causing visible shake in video that should be stabilised. Module replacement restores stabilisation.
Specific lens not working
Ultra-wide or telephoto not switching correctly. Individual lens module assessed and replaced as required — not always a full assembly replacement.
Camera Unable to Verify warning
Appears on iPhone 15 Pro+ after third-party camera replacement. Does not affect camera function. iAssist advises on paired vs non-paired modules before repair.

My iPhone rear camera shows black — is the camera broken?
Not necessarily. A black viewfinder can be a loose module connector after drops rather than a failed camera. We reseat the connector first. If that doesn't resolve it, the module or board-level camera IC is at fault.
My iPhone 14 Plus camera shows a black viewfinder — is there an Apple recall?
Yes. Apple has a service programme for iPhone 14 Plus units manufactured April 2023 to April 2024. Check your serial number at support.apple.com. Eligible devices get free repair.
My iPhone 13 Pro camera module is cracked — is it the same as the 13 Pro Max?
Yes — the 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max use identical, interchangeable rear camera modules. Strong parts availability keeps repair cost competitive.
One camera lens is blurry but the others are sharp — which module needs replacing?
Each lens (wide, ultra-wide, telephoto) has its own module. We test all focal lengths individually and replace only the faulty one.
Can OIS failure be repaired?
OIS failure usually presents as rattling when you move the phone or blurry videos. The OIS mechanism is part of the camera module — module replacement required.
My iPhone camera is blurry after a screen replacement — did the repair cause it?
Possibly — camera connectors can be dislodged during screen replacement. We reseat the connector first.
Is it worth replacing the rear camera on an older iPhone?
For iPhone 11 and newer — yes. For X and XS, worth considering if the rest of the device is in good condition.
How long does rear camera repair take?
45–75 minutes for module replacement. More complex repairs take longer.
