iPhone 12 Repair Johannesburg, Pretoria & Gauteng
iPhone 12 RepairJohannesburg, Pretoria & Gauteng
📱 Released 2020 · A14 Bionic · OLED · MagSafe · 5G · LightningSpecialist repair for the iPhone 12 across Gauteng. The 12 introduced MagSafe, 5G, and OLED to the standard lineup. At five years old, batteries are approaching service territory and back glass damage is common — MagSafe accessories put additional stress on the rear seal.
Ceramic Shield front glass — introduced with the iPhone 12 and rated by Apple at four times better drop performance than the iPhone 11 — means the screen is more resilient to shattering but does not prevent the OLED or LCD beneath from sustaining damage on impact. Back glass repair requires laser removal with particular care around the MagSafe magnetic ring array embedded in the chassis.

Common iPhone 12 repairs we see
The most frequent faults we diagnose and repair on the iPhone 12. Bring it in for a free diagnostic and we'll tell you exactly what's needed before any work begins.
Battery approaching service
Most iPhone 12 batteries are at 80–85% after 5 years — borderline for Apple's service recommendation. Heavy users are already below 80%.
Back glass cracking
The iPhone 12's flat-edge design transfers drop impact sharply to the back glass — a very common repair for this model.
OLED screen damage
Drop damage to the OLED panel is common — the flat edge design gives less protection than rounded predecessors. OLED refurbishment available.
Lightning port wear
Five years of daily Lightning use wears the connector. Intermittent charging is the most common early symptom.
MagSafe seal degradation
Repeated MagSafe attachment and detachment can affect the rear seal over time — particularly around the magnet ring area.
Rear camera issues
Wide and Ultra-Wide modules showing increased failure rates at this age, particularly after drops.
Known iPhone 12 issues we see regularly
Green tint on OLED
Known green tint visible at very low brightness in dark environments. Apple issued patches reducing the issue but hardware screen replacement eliminates it definitively.
Battery at 4–5 years
The 2,815 mAh cell is modest and 4–5 years of cycle wear is noticeable. Battery replacement restores all-day runtime.
MagSafe first generation
First-generation MagSafe implementation. Some later-model MagSafe accessories charge at reduced wattage. Coil assessed if wireless charging is slow.

Known issues on the 12 — read before booking
⚠ Earpiece replacement and Face ID — desolder carefully or Face ID is gone
Apple issued a recall / replacement programme for a specific earpiece speaker fault on the iPhone 12 series. The important repair note: the earpiece on the iPhone 12 is directly connected to the Face ID TrueDepth assembly via the same flex cable. If the earpiece is replaced without carefully preserving the original Face ID flex and its components, Face ID will stop working — permanently. This is the most common reason iPhone 12 owners arrive at iAssist after a repair elsewhere with a working earpiece but broken Face ID.
We always desolder the earpiece under microscope and preserve the original Face ID components during any earpiece repair. Face ID is restored after every correctly performed earpiece replacement on the iPhone 12.
⚠ AP/RF board solder weakness — No SIM, No Service, Wi-Fi failure after drops
The iPhone 12 uses a two-layer AP/RF board design where the RF section is particularly susceptible to solder joint failure from drop impact. A hard drop — even one that doesn't crack the screen — can disrupt the board connections and produce "No SIM Installed", permanent No Service, or completely greyed-out Wi-Fi.
This is a micro-soldering repair — pad inspection under microscope, reball, and reflow. Free diagnostic and quote before any work begins.
⚠ Green tint / colour shift on OLED display
A known display characteristic on some iPhone 12 OLED panels — a green or warm colour tint visible particularly at low brightness levels. If it appeared without a drop or physical damage, it is a panel-level defect. Screen replacement resolves it.
Distinct from burn-in — green tint on the 12 series is a panel manufacturing characteristic, not a use-related degradation.

My iPhone 12 earpiece was replaced at another shop and Face ID stopped working — is that fixable?
Yes, in most cases. The iPhone 12 earpiece flex is directly connected to the Face ID TrueDepth assembly. If the replacement shop damaged the flex or didn't transfer the original paired components, Face ID breaks. We use the JCID tag on flex method to restore it. R1,500 if fixable. Free diagnostic first.
My iPhone 12 touchscreen stopped working completely after a drop — screen or board?
If a new screen shows the same issue, it's the board. The iPhone 12 has a known fault where the AP/RF board solder connections fail from drop impact. We diagnose board vs screen connector before recommending anything.
Why does my iPhone 12 screen have a green tint or colour shift?
A known OLED characteristic on early 12 series units — some panels show a green or warm tint particularly in low-light settings. If it appeared without a drop, it's a panel defect. Screen replacement resolves it. This is distinct from burn-in.
My iPhone 12 won't charge on Lightning but wireless works — Hydra IC or charging port?
~80% Hydra IC, ~20% Lightning port. Cheap uncertified cables over time damage the Hydra IC. Free diagnostic before any repair is quoted. Use only Apple MFi-certified Lightning cables.
Does the iPhone 12 back glass require a laser machine to replace?
Yes — the iPhone 12 back glass is bonded with strong adhesive that requires laser removal. Not all repair shops have this equipment. iAssist has the laser machine and performs back glass repair regularly. Same-day for most colours.
My iPhone 12 is stuck in iTunes mode — is that the NAND or a software issue?
If restore fails repeatedly with error 4013, 9, or 14, it's NAND flash storage failure. Software restores will not resolve this. We replace the NAND using the P15 programmer and recommend upgrading to 256GB at the same time.
Is the iPhone 12 OLED worth glass-only refurbishment versus full screen replacement?
Yes where the panel is working correctly. Glass-only refurbishment preserves the original Apple-calibrated OLED and saves significantly. We assess the panel for burn-in and colour accuracy during the diagnostic before recommending which route is better value.
Is it worth repairing an iPhone 12 in 2026?
Yes for most faults. The A14 chip is capable, 5G is supported, and the Super Retina XDR OLED is excellent. Battery replacement at 5 years old is the most common repair and excellent value. For screen and board repairs, we give an honest cost-vs-device-value assessment.
