Back glass repair requires a laser machine for safe removal — the glass is bonded with strong adhesive that cannot be cleanly removed without it. We have the laser machine on-site at our Silvamonte workshop. For iPhone 12 and newer, we offer OEM quality glass at an additional R1,000 — matching the original Apple texture, colour, and MagSafe compatibility exactly. iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are an exception — the titanium chassis allows removal without laser.

How we do it
iPhone back glass — introduced on the iPhone 8 and continuing through every current model — is bonded directly to the frame using industrial adhesive. It cannot be unclipped or slid out. Replacing it requires laser removal of the broken glass, thorough cleaning of the frame, and bonding of new glass using the correct adhesive and pressure for the specific model.
From iPhone 14 onwards, Apple changed the adhesive formulation making back glass removal significantly more difficult and increasing risk of damaging the wireless charging coil and MagSafe array. iAssist uses a cold-separation laser for clean removal on all models. We stock OEM imported back glass for colour-exact matching and aftermarket glass where cost is the priority.
Shattered back glass from drop
Most common presentation. Glass fragments or fully cracks from a rear-impact drop. Laser removal and replacement is the only reliable repair method.
Cracked glass near camera module
Camera module protrusion concentrates impact force. Cracks radiating from the camera cutout are common on Pro Max models. Lens cover integrity should be checked at the same time.
Minor crack or chip
Small cracks can spread with temperature cycling and flexing. A minor crack repaired now is less expensive than a shattered panel later.
MagSafe not working after damage
Impact damage can affect the MagSafe coil array beneath the back glass. Assessed as part of back glass replacement — coil function tested before and after.
Wireless charging stopped after crack
The Qi charging coil sits directly behind the back glass. Severe cracks or fragments can displace the coil or its connections.
Wrong colour replacement needed
OEM back glass is colour-matched to the original — Natural Titanium, Black, White, Desert Titanium per generation. We stock or source the exact match.

The back glass is bonded with very strong adhesive. Mechanical removal risks cracking the chassis or damaging the wireless charging coil. A laser machine safely heats the adhesive to release the glass without collateral damage.
What is the OEM quality glass option for iPhone 12 and newer?
OEM quality glass matches the original Apple back glass in texture, colour, camera ring alignment, and MagSafe compatibility. It costs R1,000 more than standard replacement glass. Available iPhone 12 through current models.
My iPhone 8 back glass is cracked — will wireless charging still work?
Minor cracks usually don't affect wireless charging. Severe cracks or missing glass can disrupt the wireless coil signal. Back glass repair restores both glass and full wireless charging function.
Does the iPhone 15 Pro back glass require laser?
No — the titanium chassis redesign allows removal without laser. This makes back glass repair faster and less expensive than on 14 Pro.
My iPhone 14 back glass was replaced and now it restarts every 3 minutes — what happened?
The back glass on the iPhone 14 carries a wireless charging flex. If damaged during repair, it triggers panic code 0x400000 — a 3-minute restart loop. Bring it in — we read the panic log and replace the damaged flex.
How long does back glass repair take?
Most repairs same-day. Laser removal and bonding: 60–90 minutes. OEM glass adds time for correct alignment.
Is back glass repair permanent?
Replacement glass is the same specification as original. A quality case is recommended after repair, particularly on iPhone 17 Pro series where the aluminium frame is susceptible to denting.
