Common iPhone 11 Pro repairs we see

The most frequent faults we diagnose and repair on the iPhone 11 Pro. Bring it in for a free diagnostic and we'll tell you exactly what's needed before any work begins.

Battery degradation

At 6 years, iPhone 11 Pro batteries are well below 80%. Pro users tend to be heavier users β€” degradation is often more severe.

OLED burn-in

The OLED panel on the 11 Pro is showing burn-in on heavily used devices β€” ghosting of the status bar or keyboard is common.

Lightning port wear

Six years of daily use wears the Lightning connector. Intermittent charging or loose cables are the most common complaint.

Telephoto camera failure

The 2Γ— telephoto module on the 11 Pro is the most failure-prone of the three cameras at this age β€” blurring and black screen.

Water ingress

IP68 seal has degraded. Water damage cases on iPhone 11 Pro often involve corrosion that built up over years of seal degradation.

Back glass cracking

The matte glass back on the 11 Pro is more prone to cracking after drops than the standard glossy finish.

Known issues on the iPhone 11 Pro β€” read before booking

⚠ Battery degradation β€” critical at 6 years

At six years old, the iPhone 11 series battery is the single most common repair we see on these devices. Six years of daily charge cycles leaves most batteries well below Apple's 80% service threshold β€” and many significantly below that. At this level of degradation, iOS performance throttling is active, the device feels noticeably slower, and battery life may be measured in hours rather than a full day.

Check Settings β†’ Battery β†’ Battery Health. Below 80% is Apple's service recommendation. Below 70% β€” common on heavily used 6-year-old devices β€” the device may shut down unexpectedly at 20–30% charge, charge slowly, or generate significant heat during charging.

Battery replacement on the iPhone 11 series is the single best-value repair available β€” restoring full performance, removing throttling, and extending daily life dramatically. Same-day replacement available at our Silvamonte centre.

⚠ OLED burn-in β€” common at 6 years on heavy-use devices

The Super Retina XDR OLED panels on the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max are showing burn-in on heavily used devices at this age. OLED burn-in occurs when the same image is displayed at high brightness for extended periods β€” the organic compounds in the OLED pixels degrade unevenly, leaving a permanent ghost image visible particularly on light or white backgrounds.

Common burn-in patterns on iPhone 11 Pro: Ghost of the status bar (time, signal bars, battery icon) visible as a faint permanent overlay. Ghost of the keyboard visible at the bottom of the screen. Navigation bar ghosts on white backgrounds.

Burn-in is permanent β€” it cannot be corrected by software or settings. Screen replacement with a new or used original OLED panel resolves it. We also offer OLED glass-only refurbishment if the panel is working but the glass is cracked without significant burn-in.

⚠ Hydra charging IC failure β€” Lightning charging fault at this age

The iPhone 11 series uses the Hydra IC (the successor to the Tristar U2 chip used on earlier models) to manage all Lightning charging communication, USB authentication, and power delivery. After six years of daily use β€” particularly if cheap, non-MFi certified Lightning cables have been used β€” the Hydra IC fails at a significant rate on this generation.

Symptoms of Hydra IC failure:

  • "This accessory may not be supported" with Lightning cables that worked previously
  • Won't charge at all β€” cable plugged in, nothing happens, no charging icon
  • Won't charge on Lightning but charges wirelessly β€” this is 80% Hydra IC, 20% charging port
  • Doesn't appear in iTunes / Finder when plugged into a computer
  • Very slow charging β€” draws minimal current despite a working cable and adapter
  • Overheating near the Lightning port during charging attempts
  • Won't turn on at all β€” in severe Hydra failure, the phone cannot boot because the Hydra IC manages I2C data lines that the backlight driver and bootloader depend on

Cause: Cheap, uncertified Lightning cables β€” particularly cables bought at petrol stations, market stalls, or bundled with non-Apple accessories β€” do not include the correct E75 authentication chip that Apple's Hydra IC expects. Without this handshake, the unfiltered current from the charger reaches the Hydra IC directly, causing progressive damage and eventual failure. A single power surge through a cheap cable can kill the IC immediately.

This is a micro-soldering repair β€” the Hydra IC is removed under microscope and replaced. We perform this regularly on the iPhone 11 series. Free diagnostic before any work is quoted.

⚠ TrueDepth camera damage β€” very common on iPhone 11 series, specialist repair

TrueDepth camera damage and Face ID failure is one of the most common iPhone 11 and 11 Pro repairs we see. The TrueDepth system comprises multiple components β€” dot projector, infrared (IR) camera, flood illuminator, and earpiece/sensor flex cable β€” and any one of them failing produces the same result: Face ID unavailable.

How iAssist repairs TrueDepth camera faults β€” JCID tag on flex: We use the JCID tag method on the flex cable to repair TrueDepth camera faults on the iPhone 11 series. This specialist technique reads and writes the authentication data associated with the TrueDepth components, allowing the Face ID system to be restored after flex cable damage or component replacement β€” without the need for an original paired donor assembly. If the repair is viable, Face ID is fully restored to normal operation.

When the JCID method cannot fix it β€” IR camera failure: If the infrared (IR) camera itself has failed, no flex repair or JCID tag method can restore Face ID. The IR camera on the iPhone 11 series is cryptographically paired to the device at the factory β€” it cannot be swapped from another phone or replaced with a new unit. If the IR camera is the fault, Face ID cannot be recovered on that device. We diagnose this specifically during our TrueDepth assessment and tell you clearly before charging anything.

Price: R1,500 β€” if the fault is repairable via JCID flex tag, across all iPhone 11, 11 Pro, and 11 Pro Max models. If the IR camera is confirmed as the fault and Face ID cannot be recovered, there is no charge for the diagnostic.

If your iPhone 11 lost Face ID after a screen replacement at another shop, or if it has gradually stopped working β€” bring it in for a free TrueDepth diagnostic. We assess, confirm whether it is repairable, and quote before any work begins.

⚠ No SIM / No Service β€” Transceiver IC fault

iPhone 11 models are increasingly presenting with baseband and No SIM faults at this age. The most common board-level cause is failure of the Transceiver IC (XCVR_K β€” PMB5765) on the logic board. This chip manages cellular radio transmission and reception. When it fails, the iPhone shows "No SIM Installed" despite a working SIM, or loses all cellular service permanently.

Additional causes include the inductor FL8442 at the bottom of the logic board β€” located near the upper antenna connector and very easily damaged during disassembly. If No SIM appeared immediately after a repair (screen replacement, battery replacement), FL8442 damage during that repair is the likely cause.

Both are micro-soldering repairs. We diagnose the exact fault before quoting β€” free assessment, quote in writing before any work begins.

⚠ NAND storage failure β€” stuck in iTunes / DFU mode, P15 programmer repair

iPhone 11 series devices are coming in regularly with NAND-related failures β€” and this is one of the most mishandled repairs in the industry. The NAND flash storage chip has a finite number of read and write cycles. At six years of daily use β€” particularly on devices that were heavily used for photos, apps, and frequent iOS updates β€” the NAND chip develops worn sectors, bad blocks, and degraded read/write speeds that cause the device to fail in ways that look like software problems but are not.

What many shops get wrong: When an iPhone 11 is stuck in iTunes or DFU mode and restore keeps failing, the most common response at general repair shops is to repeatedly attempt DFU restores β€” sometimes charging for a "software repair" β€” without ever diagnosing the underlying hardware cause. A NAND failure cannot be resolved by any software restore. The restore fails because the NAND chip cannot complete the write process reliably. Attempting more restores does not fix this and wastes the customer's time and money.

Common symptoms of NAND failure on the iPhone 11 series:

  • Stuck in iTunes / recovery mode β€” device shows the USB cable and iTunes/Finder logo. Restore starts but fails with error codes 4013, 9, 14, or 21. Progress bar begins then the restore aborts.
  • DFU restore loop β€” device enters DFU mode, restore begins, fails with the same error code every attempt.
  • Extremely slow performance β€” the device is inexplicably sluggish even after a battery replacement. App launches take 30–60 seconds. iOS feels unresponsive. The NAND is failing to serve read requests at normal speed.
  • Bootloop that software cannot fix β€” device restarts continuously; no amount of restoring resolves it.

The repair β€” NAND replacement using the P15 programmer: We use the P15 NAND programmer to replace and correctly program the NAND chip on the iPhone 11 series. This specialist tool reads and writes the device's unique identifier data β€” serial number, Wi-Fi MAC address, and baseband information β€” from the original NAND and programs it into the replacement chip. Without correct programming via a tool like the P15, the replacement NAND will not allow the device to activate. This is the difference between a properly executed NAND replacement and a device that restores but cannot connect to Apple's servers.

Storage upgrade to 256GB β€” recommended when replacing NAND: Since the board is already open and the NAND micro-soldering work is being performed, we strongly recommend upgrading the storage to 256GB at the same time. The NAND chip is the primary cost β€” upgrading the capacity adds minimal cost relative to the total repair while giving the device a fresh chip with maximum remaining write cycles and significantly more storage. Many iPhone 11 series devices came in 64GB or 128GB configurations where storage was already a limitation.

If your iPhone 11 is stuck in iTunes or DFU mode and restore keeps failing β€” this is almost certainly a NAND issue, not a software problem. Bring it in for a free board-level diagnostic. We assess the NAND, discuss the repair and 256GB upgrade option, and quote before any work begins.

iPhone 11 Pro repair β€” frequently asked questions

Why does my iPhone 11 Pro restart every 3 minutes?

A thermalmonitord sensor is missing. Read the panic log: Settings β†’ Privacy β†’ Analytics & Improvements β†’ Analytics Data β†’ panic-full file. Look for 'Missing sensor(s): Prs0' (charging port flex) or 'Missing sensor(s): mic2' (power button flex). We read the panic log before replacing any part. R250 diagnostic credited toward the repair.

My iPhone 11 Pro OLED has a faint ghost image on white backgrounds β€” is that burn-in?

Yes. After 6 years of heavy use, OLED burn-in is common on the 11 Pro β€” typically a ghost of the status bar, keyboard, or home indicator visible on white or light backgrounds. Burn-in is permanent. Screen replacement with a new or used original OLED resolves it. Glass-only refurbishment is available where burn-in is minimal.

Can Face ID be repaired on the iPhone 11 Pro?

In many cases yes β€” JCID tag on flex method, R1,500 if fixable. If the IR camera has failed, Face ID cannot be recovered. We always diagnose the specific component before recommending repair. No charge if it's unrecoverable.

My iPhone 11 Pro won't charge on Lightning β€” Hydra IC or port?

~80% Hydra IC, ~20% Lightning port. Free diagnostic confirms which. Charges wirelessly but not on Lightning is the clearest indicator of a Hydra IC fault. Use Apple MFi-certified cables to prevent this going forward.

My iPhone 11 Pro is stuck in iTunes mode with error 4013 β€” NAND or software?

NAND flash storage failure. Error 4013 on repeated restore attempts indicates the NAND chip is worn and can't complete the iOS write process. We use the P15 programmer to replace and correctly program the chip. 256GB upgrade recommended at the same time.

Is it worth replacing the battery on an iPhone 11 Pro in 2026?

Yes. The A13 chip and Super Retina XDR OLED are still excellent. Battery replacement restores full performance and removes throttling. Most 11 Pro batteries are at 65–75% after 6 years. Check Settings β†’ Battery β†’ Battery Health. Same-day replacement available.

My iPhone 11 Pro shows 'No SIM Installed' despite a working SIM β€” what is that?

Most likely the Transceiver IC (XCVR_K β€” PMB5765) on the logic board has failed. This is the chip managing cellular transmission. It's a micro-soldering repair. If 'No SIM' appeared immediately after a battery or screen replacement, the FL8442 inductor may have been damaged during that repair β€” also board-level.

How long does iPhone 11 Pro screen replacement take?

45–75 minutes for a standard OLED replacement. For glass-only refurbishment allow 2–3 hours. We assess burn-in and panel condition during the free diagnostic and recommend the most cost-effective route before any work begins.
