The M4 MacBook Air continues Apple's fanless approach. The M4 chip is significantly more efficient than M3, but sustained maximum load will still cause the chassis to throttle when thermal limits are reached. For the vast majority of users this is never encountered — the M4 handles typical workloads with ease and stays cool. Professional sustained compute is better served by the M4 MacBook Pro.

MagSafe 3 port — new model, watch for early wear

The M4 uses MagSafe 3. Being a 2025 model, port wear and damage patterns are still emerging. Bent pins from mishandling, lint compaction, and cable wear at the connector are the most common early MagSafe failure modes on previous models — same risks apply here.

Sky Blue colour — unique display assembly

The new Sky Blue colour introduced on the M4 MacBook Air uses a colour-specific display assembly. Replacement parts are limited and expensive on this very new model — screen protection is strongly recommended. Prices will reduce as supply increases.

Touch ID pairing after topcase replacement

Touch ID is paired to the Secure Enclave on all Apple Silicon Macs including M4. Any topcase replacement requires Apple Configurator re-pairing to restore fingerprint authentication. iAssist advises all customers of this before topcase work.

Liquid damage — do not power on

The M4 has a fully soldered, encrypted SSD. Powering on after a liquid spill accelerates corrosion and reduces recovery chances dramatically. Switch it off, do not plug in charger, bring it in immediately. Micro-soldering to restore the power path is the recovery approach on Apple Silicon models.
