MacBook Air software situations we handle

MacBook Air stuck on old macOS — can't update

Common on A1466 (2013–2017) models which Apple dropped from native Sonoma support. The hardware is still perfectly capable — iAssist installs Sonoma via OpenCore Legacy Patcher, giving the machine modern macOS, security updates, and current app compatibility.

Slow and bloated macOS — needs a clean start

Years of software accumulation, login items, and background processes slow any Mac down. A clean macOS install with selective data migration restores snappy performance. iAssist backs up data, installs fresh macOS, and migrates only what you need.

macOS upgrade failed — machine stuck in boot loop

A failed update can leave the machine unable to boot. Internet Recovery (hold Option+Command+R on startup) reinstalls macOS from Apple's servers. If the SSD failed during the upgrade, replacement is required first. iAssist diagnoses and recovers these situations.

New MacBook Air setup — data migration from old Mac

Just bought a MacBook Air and need data moved across? iAssist handles Migration Assistant transfers or selective file migration between any Mac models.

macOS running slowly after a major update

A major update sometimes triggers Spotlight re-indexing or iCloud sync that causes temporary slowness for hours or days. If slowness persists beyond 48 hours, bring it in — the cause may be hardware (failing SSD, low storage) or software.

Business setup — apps, accounts, security configuration

iAssist configures MacBook Airs for business: Microsoft 365, FileVault encryption, VPN, MDM, and user account setup. Contact us for a custom quote.

MacBook Air macOS upgrade — questions we get asked

Can I run macOS Sonoma on my 2015 MacBook Air?

Yes — via OpenCore Legacy Patcher (OCLP). Apple officially dropped support for 2013–2017 MacBook Airs from Sonoma, but OCLP patches the installer to run it anyway. iAssist installs and configures OCLP for R1,500. An SSD upgrade at the same time gives the best experience.

What is OpenCore Legacy Patcher?

OCLP is a mature, widely-used open-source tool that patches macOS to run on Macs Apple no longer officially supports. For A1466 MacBook Air owners this means running Sonoma on a machine that would otherwise be stuck on Monterey. Millions of Macs worldwide run on OCLP-patched Sonoma daily.

Which MacBook Air models can run Sonoma natively?

MacBook Air 2018 (A1932) and newer run Sonoma natively. Older models — 2013–2017 A1466 and 11-inch A1465 — require OCLP for Sonoma.

Is OCLP stable for daily use?

Yes. OCLP is a mature project. For everyday use — web browsing, email, Office, media — it is completely stable. There are minor limitations with some GPU acceleration features but these do not affect typical use.

Do I need an SSD before installing OCLP?

Not required, but strongly recommended. All MacBook Airs already have SSDs. However if the drive is old, small, or slow, upgrading it before the OCLP install gives the best Sonoma experience.

Will OCLP break when Apple releases new macOS?

OCLP is updated with each major macOS release. When Apple releases macOS 16, OCLP releases a compatible version. iAssist can update your OCLP installation when new versions arrive.

My MacBook Air is stuck in a boot loop after an update — what do I do?

Hold the power button to force it off. Restart holding Option+Command+R to enter Internet Recovery. If you cannot get there, bring it in — iAssist recovers failed macOS updates regularly.

Can you move my data from my old MacBook Air to a new one?

Yes — iAssist handles Migration Assistant transfers and selective file migrations between any Mac models. WhatsApp 078 742 4769 to get a quote.

How long does a macOS clean install take?

Typically 1–3 hours depending on internet speed and data migration complexity. iAssist contacts you when the machine is ready.

How much does a macOS upgrade cost?

Clean install from R900. OCLP Sonoma for older models R1,500. Data migration from R600. Free diagnostic if you are not sure what you need — WhatsApp 078 742 4769.
