My MacBook Air trackpad click has stopped working — can that be fixed?

Yes. Trackpad click failure is usually caused by a swollen battery lifting the trackpad from below (most common cause), a failed Force Touch haptic mechanism (2015+ models), or a trackpad cable fault. The cursor on my MacBook Air jumps around randomly — what causes that?

Cursor jumping is almost always caused by a trackpad calibration fault or a partially failed trackpad cable. It can also be caused by a swollen battery creating uneven pressure on the trackpad surface. On Intel models, an SMC reset (Intel: hold Shift+Control+Option+Power for 10 seconds) sometimes resolves firmware-level trackpad glitches.

My MacBook Air trackpad is unresponsive but the keyboard works fine — is it the trackpad or logic board?

If the keyboard works but trackpad does not, the fault is almost certainly the trackpad cable or the trackpad unit itself — not the logic board. This is a far more manageable repair than a board-level fault.

How much does MacBook Air trackpad repair cost?
