MacBook Air battery symptoms we fix
Battery draining too fast
A battery past 80% health degrades capacity rapidly. macOS Battery Health shows "Service Recommended" when capacity drops below threshold. Replacement restores full-day runtime.
MacBook won't turn on without charger
Battery completely exhausted or failed. Common on older Intel models (A1466, A1932). Replacement restores standalone operation.
Swollen or bulging battery
Lithium-ion cells swell as they degrade. A raised trackpad or bulging bottom case is a warning sign — stop using immediately. Fire risk if punctured. Bring it in same day.
Shutting down at 20–40% charge
Calibration loss or failing cells causing inaccurate charge reporting. Replacement fixes unexpected shutdowns mid-task.
"Service Battery" warning in macOS
Apple's built-in monitoring has flagged the battery. Check by holding Option and clicking the battery icon, or in System Settings → Battery → Battery Health.
Stuck at 80% (M-series)
M-series MacBook Airs use Optimized Battery Charging which caps at 80% to extend lifespan. Normal behaviour. Disable in System Settings → Battery if needed. If it won't exceed 80% with optimized charging off, the battery likely needs replacement.

MacBook Air Battery Replacement — questions we get asked
How do I know if my MacBook Air battery needs replacing?
Open System Information → Power and check Cycle Count and Condition. A battery with more than 1000 cycles or showing 'Service Recommended' or 'Replace Now' is due for replacement. A battery that drains from 100% to 20% in under 2 hours under light use is also ready for replacement regardless of cycle count.
My MacBook Air shuts down suddenly at 30% battery — is that the battery?
Yes — sudden shutdown at seemingly high charge is a classic degraded battery symptom. The battery capacity meter becomes unreliable as cells age. The Mac shuts down at what it believes is 30% but the actual cell voltage has already dropped below minimum. Battery replacement resolves this completely.
Is a swollen MacBook Air battery dangerous?
Yes — a swollen battery on any MacBook Air is a fire risk and should be treated as urgent. Stop using the machine and do not attempt to charge it. Bring it in immediately or contact us to arrange urgent collection. The swollen battery must be removed by a specialist — do not attempt to remove it yourself.
How much does MacBook Air battery replacement cost?
Battery costs vary by model. We confirm part prices for all current models — see the price table above. Part cost plus iAssist labour gives you the final price, confirmed in writing before work begins.
Will my data be safe during battery replacement?
Yes — battery replacement on all MacBook Air models does not involve the storage. Your data stays completely intact throughout.
How long does MacBook Air battery replacement take?
Most MacBook Air battery replacements are completed within 2–3 hours. Drop off in the morning, collect same afternoon in most cases.
Do you use genuine Apple batteries?
We use OEM-grade replacement batteries that match or exceed the original Apple specifications. We do not use cheap aftermarket cells — the batteries we source are the same grade used by professional Apple repair centres.
My MacBook Air won't charge at all — is that the battery or the charging port?
Both are possible. If the MagSafe or USB-C LED/indicator shows no light and no charge, the fault could be the charging cable, the port, or the power management circuit on the logic board. If the port shows power but the battery won't accept charge, the battery is the most likely fault. Free diagnostic distinguishes these before quoting.
Do you offer collection for MacBook Air battery replacement?
Yes — R300 insured door-to-door collection and return across Gauteng. WhatsApp us on 078 742 4769.
After battery replacement, how long should the new battery last?
A new OEM-grade battery in a MacBook Air should last 8–12 hours under normal use and maintain more than 80% of original capacity for the first 1000 charge cycles — roughly 3–5 years of normal use.
