What we repair on the iMac 24-inch M-series

Why M-series liquid damage requires a different approach

Do not power on your M-series iMac if liquid has entered the machine. The M1, M3, and M4 iMac integrates CPU, GPU, RAM, and the Neural Engine into a single Apple Silicon package. A short-circuit event caused by powering on a wet machine can damage components that are irreplaceable — unlike Intel iMacs where individual ICs can often be swapped.

Our M-series liquid damage process

  • Display separation: The 24-inch display is carefully removed using professional tools — the liquid ingress points and affected areas are mapped before any cleaning begins
  • Ultrasonic cleaning: Logic board cleaned in specialist solution at high frequency — removes corrosion, mineral deposits, and conductive residue at microscopic level
  • Component assessment: Each affected area examined under microscope — we identify which ICs have sustained corrosion damage before reassembly
  • Data recovery first: We always attempt data access before any repair work that could further affect the storage — your files are the priority
  • Staged repair: Board restored to power, display reconnected, full function test — all before resealing

Important notes for M-series iMac owners

  • RAM and storage cannot be upgraded — both are integrated into the M-series chip package. Configure correctly at purchase.
  • Data recovery requires board restoration — there is no removable drive to connect to external equipment. We restore the board to a bootable state and clone your data.
  • No OpenCore upgrade available — M-series iMacs run the latest macOS natively and will continue to be supported for many years.
  • Thunderbolt / USB-C port faults — port damage is repairable at component level on M-series boards. Bring in for a free diagnostic before assuming board replacement.

iMac 24-inch M-series — FAQ

Can the RAM or storage be upgraded on the iMac 24-inch?

No. On all M-series iMac models the RAM (Unified Memory) and SSD storage are integrated directly into the Apple Silicon chip package. Neither can be upgraded after purchase. Configure with sufficient RAM and storage at the time of purchase.

My iMac 24-inch screen is cracked — can it be replaced?

Yes. The 4.5K display assembly can be replaced on all M-series 24-inch iMac models. The display is deeply integrated with the thermal and power architecture, so this is a specialist job — but fully repairable. Free diagnostic first to confirm the exact fault.

Can you recover data from an M-series iMac with a dead logic board?

In many cases yes. M-series data recovery requires restoring the logic board to a working state — the storage is integrated into the chip and cannot be read independently. We perform board restoration first, then clone your data before any further repair work.

My iMac 24-inch fan is making noise — is it repairable?

Yes. Fan bearing failure is repairable on the 24-inch iMac. A noisy fan left unattended causes thermal stress on the M-series chip over time. Bring it in for a free diagnostic.

Do you repair Thunderbolt or USB-C ports on the iMac 24-inch?

Yes — Thunderbolt controller IC faults and physical port damage are repairable at component level on M-series logic boards. If a port stops working or stops charging, bring it in for a free diagnostic before assuming a board replacement is needed.

How long does iMac 24-inch repair take?

Diagnostics same day. Screen replacements typically 24–48 hours. Logic board repairs 3–5 days depending on the fault. We give you a clear timeline on drop-off and update you throughout.

Do you offer collection for the iMac 24-inch?

Yes — R500 insured door-to-door collection and return across Gauteng via Eliz Courier. WhatsApp us on 078 742 4769 to arrange.

My iMac 24-inch M-series makes a faint high-pitched noise — is that normal?

A very faint high-pitched tone from the M-series iMac is occasionally reported and in most cases relates to coil whine from the power delivery circuitry under certain loads — particularly when the display is at low brightness. This is generally a cosmetic issue rather than a fault. If the noise is loud, irregular, or accompanied by performance issues, bring it in for a free diagnostic to rule out a fan bearing fault or power supply issue.

Can the storage on my M1, M3, or M4 iMac be upgraded after purchase?

No. On all M-series iMac models the SSD storage is integrated into the Apple Silicon chip package and cannot be upgraded, replaced, or expanded after purchase. The only option is external storage via Thunderbolt or USB-C. This makes the storage configuration you choose at purchase permanent — configure with sufficient storage from the start.

My iMac 24-inch display has a pink or green tint in one corner — what is causing that?

A localised colour tint in a corner of the 24-inch display is typically caused by display cable pressure, a delaminating display panel, or backlight non-uniformity. It is not a software issue and will not resolve itself. Bring it in for a free diagnostic — in many cases this is a display cable seating issue that is resolved without a full panel replacement.
