- Do not press the power button. Even if the iMac appears off, pressing power on a wet machine causes short-circuit damage that turns a recoverable situation into an irreversible one.
- Disconnect the power cable immediately from the back of the iMac and from the wall socket.
- Do not attempt to dry it with a hairdryer or place it in rice. Neither method removes corrosive mineral residue — only ultrasonic cleaning does.
- Keep it upright to prevent liquid from spreading further into the chassis.

Why liquid type matters — how different liquids affect recovery
- Black coffee or tea (no sugar): Moderate risk. The tannins leave minimal conductive residue. Recovery rates are generally good if treated within 24–48 hours.
- Coffee or tea with sugar / milk: High risk. Sugar creates highly conductive residue that bridges circuits and causes progressive corrosion. More extensive board cleaning required.
- Sugary soft drinks (Coke, juice): Highest risk. Sugar and phosphoric acid residue is extremely conductive and corrosive. Ultrasonic cleaning is essential and should happen within hours, not days.
- Tap water: Moderate risk. Tap water contains dissolved minerals that leave conductive deposits as they dry. Less damaging than sugary drinks but still requires proper ultrasonic treatment.
- Distilled or filtered water: Lower risk. Minimal mineral content means less residue — but still shorts circuits while wet and requires proper treatment before powering on.
- Cleaning products / sprays: Variable but often severe. Chemical compounds can etch circuit board traces and corrode component leads. Immediate treatment essential.

Power off, disconnect, bring in. Do not attempt to power on under any circumstances. The sooner we treat it the better.
Disassembly and assessment
Display removed, internal components inspected, extent of liquid ingress and corrosion mapped.
Ultrasonic cleaning
Logic board placed in ultrasonic cleaner with specialist solution. All corrosion, residue, and mineral deposits removed at microscopic level.
Component assessment
After cleaning, board inspected under microscope. Damaged ICs, capacitors, or traces identified. Data recovery attempted if requested.
Repair and test
Failed components replaced at chip level. Board powered and tested for full function before reassembly.
Reseal and return
Display resealed with OEM adhesive strips. Full function test. Returned to you with 6-month warranty on repaired components.

Drinks spilled nearby, office ceiling leaks, cleaning products sprayed near the machine, and air conditioning condensation all find their way in through these slots. Coffee and sugary drinks cause the most damage due to their corrosive residue.
