Series 5 batteries took a real beating from being the first to power an always-on display continuously. Most are now well below 70% capacity — and a meaningful percentage have swollen physically. Series 5 swollen battery cases are very common at 6+ years. If your screen is starting to lift off the case, the battery has swollen and is a fire and chemical hazard. Stop wearing the watch and bring it to us within 24 hours for safe removal of the swollen cell. Pricing is R1,200 for battery + safe disposal of swollen cell + new gasket and reseal.
Swollen battery (very common)
By far the #1 Series 5 fault. Always-on display accelerated battery wear. Swollen cells push the screen up — fire safety priority. Stop wearing immediately.
Battery completely worn
6+ years of always-on display. Most batteries below 70% capacity. Won't last past mid-morning. Replacement essential.
ECG sensor failure
Series 5's ECG electrode degrades over time with skin oils and sweat. ECG app fails or returns errors. Back glass replacement with sensor recalibration.
Cracked screen
6 years of accumulated impact damage. Glass-only repair if LCD intact at R1,800, full screen at R2,800.
Charging coil corroded
6 years of sweat exposure = significant charging coil corrosion. Charges slowly, intermittently, or fails. Component-level repair routine at this age.
Crown sweat damage
Years of sweat ingress causes Crown stickiness, ghost scrolling, or unresponsive presses. Deep clean often resolves at lower cost than full replacement.

Bring it to us within 24 hours for safe removal of the swollen cell, replacement battery, new gasket, and case reseal. My Series 5 ECG stopped working — fixable?
Yes, in most cases. Series 5's ECG electrode degrades over years of skin oil and sweat exposure. If the ECG app shows errors or won't record, back glass replacement with sensor recalibration at R800 typically restores function. Some cases need full replacement — we confirm during diagnostic.
Is Series 5 worth fixing at 6+ years?
Single battery replacement at R1,200 is almost always worth it — especially for swollen battery cases where safety matters even if you don't plan to use the watch heavily. Battery + charging coil at R2,150 is still good value vs R5,000+ replacement. Multiple major faults reaching R2,500+ becomes borderline — we honestly assess economic viability.
Does Series 5 still get watchOS updates?
No — Apple has ended watchOS updates for Series 5. Your watch continues working with the last supported watchOS but won't get new features or security updates going forward. Most apps still work but newer apps may drop Series 5 support over time.
