How liquid damage actually happens to Apple Watches
Apple Watches are water resistant, not waterproof. The seals are rated for specific exposure profiles — splashes, hand washing, even swimming on most models. But seals degrade. Salt water, sunscreen, soap residue, and pressure cycling (diving deeper than rated, or hot tubs forcing pressure-driven moisture past the seals) all break down the gaskets over time. Common scenarios we see weekly:
Hot tubs and steam rooms. Hot pressurised steam penetrates seals more easily than swimming-pool water. This is the #1 silent killer of Apple Watches.
Salt water exposure. Sea water is corrosive — even one ocean swim with degraded seals can introduce enough salt to start a corrosion chain.
Hot showers. Soap and shampoo residue combined with steam — both compromise seals over time.
