Apple Watch Logic Board Repair
Apple Watch Logic Board RepairAcross South Africa
Component-level microsoldering · IC replacement · Trace repairApple Watch won't power on at all? Boot looping endlessly? Won't pair to your iPhone? Logic board faults are the deepest level of Apple Watch repair — most shops simply refuse them. We do component-level microsoldering, IC replacement, and trace repair routinely. If the board can be saved, we can usually save it.

Common logic board faults we repair
Will not power on
Plugged in, charging, but Watch never boots. Power management IC, CPU, or PMU failure.
Boot loop
Stuck on Apple logo, restarts repeatedly, or freezes mid-boot. Storage IC corruption or kernel-level component fault.
Will not pair to iPhone
Bluetooth or Wi-Fi component failed. Watch boots but cannot connect — common after liquid damage to wireless ICs.
Post-liquid damage faults
Watch dried out but multiple components no longer work. Each failed IC needs reflow or replacement.
Apple Watch service message
Watch displays a service icon or error message — internal hardware self-test has detected a fault.
Random shutdowns under load
Watch turns off when GPS, cellular, or workouts engage. CPU thermal throttling fault or PMU instability.
Repair tiers & pricing
Logic board repair pricing depends on what fails, not the model. Free diagnostic identifies the tier and we confirm in writing before any chargeable work.
Component reflow
Solder joint fatigue or thermal damage. Targeted reflow of CPU, PMU, or Wi-Fi/BT module without component replacement.
- Full board diagnostic
- Reflow of suspected component(s)
- Reassembly & QC test
- Cold-press reseal
Component replacement
One or two failed ICs identified — power management, charging, audio, or wireless. Component-level replacement with hot air rework.
- Tier 1 diagnostic, plus:
- Microsolder removal of failed IC
- OEM-grade replacement IC fitted
- Pad and trace inspection
- Verification under load
Multi-component repair
Multiple failed components, or complex faults requiring trace repair where copper has been damaged or eaten by corrosion.
- Tier 2 work, plus:
- Multiple IC replacements
- Trace and pad reconstruction
- Bridge wire repairs where needed
- Extended QC under load
How we repair logic boards
Free diagnostic
We open the case, inspect the board under microscope, run electrical tests on power rails, and identify which IC(s) have failed. No charge for this assessment.
Component identification
Multimeter and thermal imaging used to pinpoint failed components. We confirm which tier of repair is needed before any chargeable work.
Microsoldering rework
Hot air rework station, microscope, and lead-free solder. Failed components removed, OEM-grade replacements fitted, pads cleaned and inspected.
Load testing
Repaired board tested under load: charge cycle, GPS, cellular, workouts. Verifies the repair is stable across the full range of Watch operations.
Cold-press reseal
Case cold-press resealed for water resistance. Final QC across all functions before delivery.
Why iAssist for logic board repair
Component-level capability
This is our highest-value capability. Microsoldering, IC replacement, and trace repair are work most repair shops in South Africa cannot do at all.
Cheaper than replacement
Apple's response to logic board faults is to replace the entire Watch — typically R7,000–R18,000. We can usually repair the board for under R3,500.
Honest unrepairable calls
If the board genuinely cannot be saved (eg severe trace damage on inner layers), we tell you upfront and you pay nothing.
1–3 working day turnaround
Logic board repair is more involved than a battery swap, but we typically complete most repairs within 1–3 working days.
Most logic board faults are repairable for a fraction of replacement cost. Free diagnostic confirms what is wrong before any work begins.

In Gauteng, we offer R300 flat-rate collection and delivery within Johannesburg, Pretoria, and Centurion. Outside Gauteng, we work with The Courier Guy for door-to-door nationwide service — you choose overnight or standard speed and pay The Courier Guy directly at their current rate.

Apple Watch logic board repair — frequently asked questions
How much does Apple Watch logic board repair cost?
Pricing depends on the severity tier we identify during free diagnostic. Tier 1 (component reflow) is R1,500–R2,000. Tier 2 (one or two IC replacements) is R2,000–R2,800. Tier 3 (multi-component or trace repair) is R2,800–R3,500. We confirm tier and exact price in writing before any chargeable work.
My Apple Watch will not turn on at all. Is it dead?
Not necessarily. Most no-power faults are repairable. Common causes: failed power management IC, dead CPU, dead PMU, or charging IC failure preventing the battery from delivering current. Each is fixable with component-level work. Free diagnostic identifies the cause within hours of arrival.
What is the difference between logic board repair and just replacing the Watch?
Logic board repair fixes the failed component on your existing board, preserving your serial number, activity history, and all data. Replacement (which is what Apple does) gives you a new Watch and a fresh start. For most faults, repair costs 60–80% less than replacement.
Will I lose my data during logic board repair?
We do everything we can to preserve data, but logic board repair carries some inherent risk to onboard storage if the storage IC itself is the failed component. We tell you upfront if data preservation is at risk so you can make an informed decision. Backup via your paired iPhone is recommended where possible before any major repair.
Is logic board repair worth it on an older Apple Watch?
Depends on the model. A Series 7 or newer with a R2,500 logic board fault is usually worth fixing — you keep a current-OS-supported Watch for less than half the price of a new SE 3. A Series 3 with the same fault often is not worth it because the device is at end-of-life for software updates anyway. We tell you honestly during diagnostic.
How long does logic board repair take?
Tier 1 reflows are typically 1 working day. Tier 2 IC replacements are 1–2 working days. Tier 3 multi-component repairs can be 2–4 working days. For nationwide repairs via The Courier Guy with overnight, total door-to-door turnaround is typically 3–5 working days.
What if my Watch turns out to be unrepairable?
We tell you upfront and you pay nothing. The free diagnostic includes the determination of repairability. If we discover during repair that severe inner-layer trace damage or PCB delamination is present (which is rare), we stop work and explain — you only pay for diagnostic time, not for unsuccessful repair attempts.
Do you offer a warranty on logic board repairs?
Yes — all Apple Watch logic board repairs at iAssist are covered by a 6-month warranty on parts and labour. We are honest that board-level repaired devices have somewhat higher long-term failure risk than non-repaired devices regardless of repair quality, but our warranty covers any related fault recurrence within six months.

Apple Watch Repairs — Frequently Asked Questions
Will my Apple Watch still be water-resistant after repair?
We reseal every Apple Watch using professional cold-press adhesive and allow full cure time — giving you the best possible water resistance a repaired device can achieve. While factory IP ratings cannot be officially recertified post-repair, our resealing process is as close as it gets
Do you use genuine Apple parts?
We use OEM-grade parts that are manufactured to the same specifications as Apple's original components — meaning the same brightness, touch sensitivity, and build quality you expect from your Apple Watch. Where genuine Apple parts are available for your specific model, we will always present that as an option. Either way, you are told exactly what part is being used, the cost, and the warranty before we touch your device. No surprises
Do you repair Apple Watch batteries?
Absolutely — battery replacement is one of the most common Apple Watch repairs we do. If your watch is shutting down before the end of the day, showing a Service Battery warning, or simply not holding a charge like it used to, a new battery will restore it to full performance. We use OEM-grade cells built to Apple's original capacity specs, and most battery replacements are completed the same day. Priced from R900 with a 6-month warranty included.
Can Apple Watch screens be repaired?
Yes — Apple Watch screens can be repaired, and in most cases you do not need a full device replacement. At iAssist we replace the OLED display assembly or front glass depending on your specific model, from the original Series 1 right through to the Series 11 and Ultra 2. All screen repairs use OEM-grade parts, are completed within 24–48 hours, and carry a 6-month warranty
How long does an Apple Watch repair take?
Most Apple Watch screen and battery replacements are completed the same day — often within a few hours of drop-off. For more complex repairs such as water damage treatment or Digital Crown replacement, turnaround is typically 24–48 hours. We will always give you a realistic time estimate upfront before any work begins. If you are not local, we offer a collection and delivery service across Gauteng for R300 — your watch is collected, repaired, and returned to your door
How much does Apple Watch screen repair cost in South Africa?
Apple Watch screen repair in South Africa costs between R1,500 and R3,500 at iAssist, depending on your model. A Series 7, 8, or 9 screen replacement sits toward the higher end due to the larger OLED panel, while earlier models like the SE or Series 4 are more affordable. All pricing is confirmed after a free diagnostic assessment — you receive a written quote before we begin, with no hidden fees. For the most accurate price for your specific model, WhatsApp us with your Apple Watch model and we will come back to you within minutes
Do you repair all Apple Watch models including the Ultra?
Yes — we repair every Apple Watch model ever released, including the Ultra and Ultra 2. From the original Series 1 through to the Series 11, SE 1st and 2nd gen, and both Ultra models, we carry parts and have hands-on experience with each generation. Apple Watch Ultra repairs are frequently declined by other repair centres due to the complexity of the 49mm titanium case — we do not decline them. If you are unsure of your model, WhatsApp us a photo and we will identify it for you instantly
Do you offer collection and delivery for Apple Watch repairs?
Yes — we offer a door-to-door collection and delivery service across the entire Gauteng province for R250. You do not need to travel to our Silvamonte repair centre. We collect your Apple Watch, carry out the repair at our workshop, and return it directly to your door. Collection and delivery is available across Johannesburg, Pretoria, and all surrounding Gauteng areas. Simply WhatsApp us to arrange a collection time that suits you
Is my data safe during an Apple Watch repair?
Completely. Your Apple Watch data, health records, activity history, and paired iPhone connection all remain intact throughout the repair process. We do not factory reset your device unless it is absolutely required for a software repair — and if that is ever the case, we will tell you before we begin, not after. Your watch leaves our workshop exactly as it came in, just fixed
