How we do it
'No SIM' or 'Invalid SIM' on an iPhone can indicate a failed SIM reader, a damaged SIM tray, a corrupted carrier settings profile, or a baseband modem fault. The baseband processor handles all cellular communication — voice calls, SMS, and mobile data — and is a separate IC on the logic board. Baseband failure is less common than SIM reader failure but produces identical symptoms and requires board-level repair.
iAssist differentiates between SIM reader failure (mechanical — the spring contacts that read the SIM card) and baseband failure (board-level) by testing with a known-good SIM and reader. SIM tray damage from bent ejector pins is also assessed. The repair path differs significantly in cost and complexity between these three causes.
No SIM after drop or impact
Physical impact can bend the SIM tray, damage the SIM reader spring contacts, or disconnect the SIM reader flex. Assessment before any repair.
No SIM after liquid damage
Liquid in the SIM tray area corrodes the reader contacts. Cleaning and assessment — reader replacement where corrosion is severe.
No SIM — nothing has happened

My iPhone shows 'No SIM Installed' but my SIM works in another phone — what is that?
The SIM card is fine — the fault is in the iPhone's cellular hardware. Most likely: SIM tray contact damage, Transceiver IC failure (11 series — XCVR_K), or RF board solder joint failure (12 series). Free diagnostic under microscope determines which.
What is the XCVR_K transceiver IC?
The XCVR_K (PMB5765) is the cellular radio transceiver IC on the iPhone 11 series. It manages all cellular transmission and reception. After several years or drops, this chip fails and produces permanent No SIM. Board-level micro-soldering repair.
My iPhone 11 shows No SIM after a battery replacement — what happened?
The FL8442 inductor near the upper antenna connector on the 11 series is easily damaged during disassembly. If No SIM appeared immediately after a repair elsewhere, FL8442 damage during that repair is the most likely cause.
My iPhone 12 Mini shows No SIM and no Wi-Fi after a drop — are those connected?
Yes — the 12 Mini's compact board is susceptible to flex-induced solder joint failure. Drop impact cracks RF section connections, producing No SIM, No Service, and Wi-Fi failure simultaneously. A board reball typically resolves both.
What is the difference between No SIM and No Service?
No SIM: device doesn't detect a SIM card at all. No Service: device sees the SIM but can't register on a network. Both require board-level diagnosis.
Can carrier unlocking fix a No SIM problem?
No — carrier unlocking is a software state. If the device can't detect any SIM at all, it's a hardware fault that unlocking cannot fix.
My iPhone 17 Air shows No SIM — I was told it's eSIM only?
Correct. The 17 Air is eSIM only — no physical SIM slot. If it shows No SIM, the eSIM profile may need re-provisioning with your carrier, or there is a hardware eSIM fault. Contact your carrier first.
How long does No SIM repair take?
