Common MacBook Pro M4 Repair faults we see
MagSafe 3 port damage — bent pins or lint
Physical impact, bent pins, or compacted lint stops charging. USB-C ports continue as a workaround. MagSafe 3 socket replacement is a board-level micro-soldering repair.
Display assembly — very expensive, colour-specific
The ProMotion Liquid Retina XDR assembly is colour-specific and premium-priced on the 2024 model. Screen protection is strongly recommended. Replacement parts availability improves over time.
Liquid damage — soldered SSD and encrypted storage
The M4 has a fully soldered, encrypted SSD. Liquid damage recovery requires micro-soldering to restore the power path. Do not power on after a spill.
Touch ID pairing after topcase replacement
Touch ID is paired to the Secure Enclave. Topcase replacement breaks the pairing — Apple Configurator re-pairing required post-repair.
Parts availability — 2024 model

What is the difference between MacBook Pro M4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max?
M4 (A3293) is the base 14-inch model with a standard M4 chip. M4 Pro (A3294) adds more CPU/GPU cores and 14-inch form factor. M4 Max (A3295) has the highest core count and is in the 16-inch chassis. All have ProMotion 120Hz displays and MagSafe 3.
Is the MacBook Pro M4 SSD upgradeable?
No. All M-series MacBook Pros have fully soldered SSDs. There is no upgrade path after purchase.
Does the MacBook Pro M4 have a Touch Bar?
No. Apple removed the Touch Bar from MacBook Pro with the M1 Pro/Max in 2021. All M4 models use physical function keys with Touch ID in the top-right corner.
Can the MacBook Pro M4 charge via USB-C?
Yes. The M4 Pro and Max have MagSafe 3 plus two or three Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports that all support charging.
