Slow performance — spinning HDD
Non-Retina MacBook Pros ship with spinning hard drives. Boot times exceed 60 seconds, apps are sluggish. An SSD replacement is the single most impactful upgrade — transforms the machine into a fast, responsive computer.
GPU failure — A1286 2011 15-inch
The 2011 MacBook Pro 15-inch A1286 with AMD Radeon HD 6750M is notorious for GPU failure from thermal stress. Symptoms: distorted display, lines, random restart, no video. GPU reball or OCLP dGPU disable.
Battery failure — 10–16 year old batteries
