MacBook Pro M1 RepairJohannesburg & Gauteng
The machine that made everyone forget Intel existed — until four years of Gauteng summers, load shedding surges, and rooibos near the trackpad caught up with it. Apple's first Apple Silicon MacBook Pros come in three variants: the 13-inch M1 (A2338) in the old Touch Bar chassis with USB-C only, and the 14-inch M1 Pro (A2442) and 16-inch M1 Pro/Max (A2485) with the notched design, MagSafe 3, HDMI, and SD card slot. At this age, batteries are dipping past 80% health on daily drivers, and the 8GB models show SSD wear from heavy swap usage — your MacBook's been working harder than you realised. The 14/16-inch models see MagSafe 3 connector wear and cracked Liquid Retina XDR displays from drops and bag mishaps. We repair all of it — screen, battery, Touch Bar on 13-inch, MagSafe 3 on 14/16-inch, keyboard, trackpad, and board-level work. Free diagnostic, R300 collection across Gauteng, 6-month warranty.

Common MacBook Pro M1 Repair faults we see
Touch Bar failure — A2338 M1 13-inch
The M1 13-inch A2338 has Touch Bar. Black, frozen, or unresponsive Touch Bar. SMC reset first, Touch Bar assembly replacement if hardware fault confirmed.
USB-C board failure — A2338 (no MagSafe)
The M1 13-inch charges via USB-C only. USB-C board failure leaves no charging path. Board replacement or controller IC repair.
Touch ID pairing after topcase replacement
Secure Enclave pairing broken by any topcase swap. Apple Configurator re-pairing required to restore fingerprint authentication.
Liquid damage — soldered SSD
Fully soldered encrypted SSD. Do not power on after a spill. Micro-soldering required for data recovery on board failure.
Display cable failure — 14/16-inch ProMotion
The 14/16-inch M1 Pro/Max display cable is more robustly routed than 2016 Intel models. Display failures are usually physical impact.
MagSafe 3 — first generation MagSafe connector
A2442 and A2485 introduced MagSafe 3. First-generation connector — more susceptible to wear than later revisions. Port damage or lint compaction.

Does the M1 13-inch MacBook Pro have MagSafe?
No. The M1 13-inch (A2338) uses USB-C only. MagSafe 3 was introduced on the M1 Pro and M1 Max 14/16-inch models.
Does the M1 MacBook Pro have a Touch Bar?
Only the M1 13-inch (A2338). The M1 Pro and M1 Max 14/16-inch models have physical function keys — no Touch Bar.

Yes. M1 performance is still excellent for most workflows. A screen or battery repair on a well-spec'd M1 Pro or Max is far cheaper than replacing the machine.

ProMotion Liquid Retina XDR assemblies for 14 and 16-inch models are premium-priced. 13-inch Retina panel is less expensive. Confirmed before booking.
