iPad Repair Johannesburg | 5th–11th Gen | iAssist
iPad (Standard) RepairJohannesburg & Gauteng
iAssist repairs all standard iPad generations from the 5th (2017) to the 11th (2025). Cracked screens, battery replacement, charging port micro-soldering, logic board repair, and software issues. Glass-only digitizer repair available on 5th–9th gen if the LCD is undamaged. Free diagnostic.
The standard iPad line crossed two major design boundaries between the 5th and 11th generations: the move from a curved-edge Home-button chassis to a flat-edge, laminated one at the 10th generation, and the parallel move from Lightning to USB-C. A pre-10th-gen iPad and a post-10th-gen iPad share almost no interchangeable parts despite looking similar in photos, so confirming your exact generation before booking avoids a mismatched quote.

iPad issues we repair every day
Cracked glass — LCD still working
5th–9th gen standard iPads allow glass-only digitizer repair if the LCD underneath is intact. This is cheaper than full screen replacement and takes 3–5 days for OCA lamination. Confirm by checking: is the image perfect with no bleed, lines, or dead pixels?
Full screen replacement needed
If the LCD shows lines, bleed, dead pixels, or no image at all, the full assembly must be replaced. Same-day or next-day on most models.
Battery draining fast or shutting down unexpectedly
iPad 5th–9th gen batteries degrade noticeably after 2–3 years of heavy use. Battery replacement restores full runtime at a low cost.
Charging port not working — Lightning or USB-C
Standard iPads have soldered ports requiring micro-soldering repair. Common on iPads with heavy daily charging use.
iPad won't turn on
Could be a dead battery, charging port fault, or logic board issue. Free diagnostic confirms the cause.
iPad 10th Gen USB-C port damage
The 10th gen switched to USB-C with a soldered connector. Charging port micro-soldering applies — not a modular swap.
iAssist has a professional OCA lamination machine — we refurbish cracked glass on any iPad generation, keeping the original Apple LCD or OLED intact. Touch replacement also available on any model if the digitizer has failed. ⚠ Note: Very badly shattered glass can sometimes damage the touch layer during removal — we assess after glass removal and advise you before doing any additional work. Your Apple LCD/OLED is never at risk.

What generation iPad do I have?
Go to Settings → General → About → Model Number. The model number identifies your exact generation. Standard iPads from 5th–9th gen have 9.7 or 10.2-inch displays. 10th gen onwards have 10.9-inch displays.
Can standard iPad screens be repaired without replacing the LCD?
Yes — 5th through 9th gen standard iPads have a separate glass digitizer bonded over the LCD. If the internal picture is intact (no lines, bleed, or dead pixels) we can replace only the glass using OCA lamination. This takes 3–5 days and costs significantly less than a full screen replacement.
Does iPad 10th Gen have USB-C?
Yes. iPad 10th Gen (2022) was the first standard iPad to switch from Lightning to USB-C.
Is the charging port on standard iPads modular?
No. Standard iPads have soldered Lightning or USB-C ports. Repair requires micro-soldering rather than a direct port swap.
What chip does my iPad use?
iPad 5th (A9), 6th (A10), 7th (A10), 8th (A12), 9th (A13), 10th (A14), 11th (A16). The chip does not affect most repairs — screen and battery are model-specific.
Can standard iPads support Apple Pencil?
iPad 5th–9th gen support Apple Pencil 1st gen. iPad 10th gen supports Apple Pencil (USB-C). iPad 11th gen supports Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil (USB-C).
Is iPad 9th Gen still worth repairing in 2025?
Yes. The 9th gen is a capable and widely used device. Battery and screen repairs at under R1,500 make good financial sense versus a replacement.
What is the Lightning port repair process on iPad?
Lightning ports on standard iPads are soldered to the logic board. Micro-soldering is used to replace damaged pins or the full port socket — this preserves data and avoids a full board replacement.
Do you repair iPad 5th and 6th gen?
Yes. We repair all standard iPad generations including the older models. Parts availability for 5th and 6th gen is good.
How long do standard iPad repairs take?
Screen and battery replacements 24–48 hours. Glass-only repairs 3–5 days. Charging port and board repairs 2–3 business days.
