iPad Pro 12.9 & 13-inch RepairJohannesburg & Gauteng

iAssist repairs all iPad Pro 12.9-inch and 13-inch models — from the original 12.9-inch 1st gen (2015) through the 13-inch M5 (2025). Liquid Retina XDR Mini-LED, ProMotion, and OLED screen replacement. Modular USB-C port swap R2,500 on 3rd gen onwards. Face ID preserved. Micro-soldering for logic board and charging faults. Free diagnostic.

The 12.9-inch and 13-inch Pro share one chassis lineage that moved through three major display technologies — standard LCD (1st–2nd gen), Mini-LED XDR (M1–M2), and Tandem OLED (M4–M5) — each requiring a different repair approach. Mini-LED and OLED panels in particular are far more sensitive to lamination stress than the original LCD generation, which is why we always confirm your exact generation before quoting a glass-only refurb versus a full assembly swap.

Large-format Pro issues we repair every day

Modular USB-C port damage — 3rd gen onwards

iPad Pro 12.9-inch 3rd gen (2018) through 13-inch M5 (2025) all have a modular USB-C port. Direct swap for R2,500 — no micro-soldering, faster turnaround. 1st and 2nd gen Lightning ports are soldered and require micro-soldering.

Mini-LED XDR screen damage — M1 or M2

The 12.9-inch M1 (2021) and M2 (2022) use Liquid Retina XDR Mini-LED — the most advanced non-OLED display Apple has made for iPad. Replacement assemblies are premium-priced. Full assessment before quoting.

OLED screen damage — 13-inch M4 or M5

The 13-inch M4 (2024) and M5 (2025) use Tandem OLED — extremely thin and bright. The largest and most expensive iPad display to replace. Assessment and written quote before any work.

ProMotion screen damage — 3rd or 4th gen

3rd gen 2018 (A12X) and 4th gen 2020 (A12Z) use Liquid Retina ProMotion without Mini-LED. Full assembly replacement — Face ID sensors preserved during repair.

Glass-only repair — 1st gen 12.9 (2015) only

The original 12.9-inch iPad Pro (2015) has a non-laminated display. Glass-only digitizer repair is possible if the LCD underneath is undamaged. Takes 3–5 days for OCA curing.

Battery draining fast — large battery, heavy use

The 12.9 and 13-inch models carry the largest batteries of any iPad. Despite this, heavy professional use degrades the battery noticeably. Replacement restores full all-day runtime.

Face ID fault — 3rd gen onwards

Face ID introduced on the 12.9-inch 3rd gen (2018). Sensor flex cable damage or disconnection is the most common cause of Face ID failure after a drop or repair. Honest assessment before any work.

Lightning port fault — 1st or 2nd gen

The 12.9-inch 1st gen (2015) and 2nd gen (2017) have soldered Lightning ports. Micro-soldering to replace damaged pins or the full port socket.

🔧 Glass refurbishment on any model — original Apple screen stays intact

iAssist has a professional OCA lamination machine — we refurbish cracked glass on any iPad generation, keeping the original Apple LCD or OLED intact. Touch replacement also available on any model if the digitizer has failed. ⚠ Note: Very badly shattered glass can sometimes damage the touch layer during removal — we assess after glass removal and advise you before doing any additional work. Your Apple LCD/OLED is never at risk.

iPad Pro 12.9 & 13-inch — questions we get asked

What is the difference between iPad Pro 12.9-inch and 13-inch?

Apple renamed the 12.9-inch iPad Pro to 13-inch starting with the M4 generation in 2024. The screen size is virtually identical — 12.9 inches previously, 13 inches now. If you search for either, you are looking at the same product line.

Which iPad Pro models are 12.9 or 13-inch?

12.9-inch: 1st gen 2015 (A9X), 2nd gen 2017 (A10X), 3rd gen 2018 (A12X), 4th gen 2020 (A12Z), 5th gen 2021 (M1 — Mini-LED), 6th gen 2022 (M2 — Mini-LED). 13-inch: M4 2024 (OLED), M5 2025 (OLED).

What is Mini-LED XDR on the 12.9-inch M1 and M2?

The M1 and M2 12.9-inch iPad Pro introduced Liquid Retina XDR — a Mini-LED backlight system with over 10,000 LEDs enabling extreme local dimming and 1,000 nits sustained brightness. This display is significantly more expensive to replace than standard Liquid Retina.

Is the 13-inch iPad Pro M4 OLED the same as the 11-inch M4?

Both use Tandem OLED technology but the assemblies are completely different sizes. A 13-inch display assembly cannot fit an 11-inch iPad Pro. Each size requires its own specific replacement.

Is the USB-C port on 12.9-inch iPad Pro modular?

Yes — on all 12.9 and 13-inch models from 2018 onwards (3rd gen). The USB-C port is on a modular daughterboard, direct swap for R2,500. The 1st and 2nd gen (2015–2017) have a Lightning port which is soldered.

Does the original 12.9-inch iPad Pro (2015) have Face ID?

No. The 1st and 2nd gen 12.9-inch (2015 and 2017) use Touch ID in the Home button. Face ID was introduced on the 3rd gen 12.9-inch in 2018.

Can the 1st gen 12.9-inch get glass-only repair?

The original 12.9-inch iPad Pro (2015) has a non-laminated display — glass-only digitizer repair is possible if the LCD is undamaged. This is the only 12.9/13-inch model where glass-only is an option.

How much does 12.9-inch Mini-LED screen repair cost?

Mini-LED Liquid Retina XDR assemblies are significantly more expensive than standard ProMotion displays. Assessment and written quote before any work — typically higher than 11-inch models of the same generation.

How long does 12.9/13-inch iPad Pro repair take?

48–72 hours minimum due to the larger display assembly and sensor array complexity.

Do you repair iPad Pro 12.9-inch 1st gen (2015)?

Yes. The original 12.9-inch is a large and capable device. Parts are available and repair costs are well below replacement price.
