iPad Pro 12.9-inch 1st & 2nd gen RepairJohannesburg & Gauteng

📱 2015–2017 · A9X (1st gen) / A10X Fusion (2nd gen) · Lightning · Home button Touch ID

Specialist repair for the iPad Pro 12.9-inch 1st & 2nd gen across Gauteng. Original large-format iPad Pro. 2nd gen added ProMotion 120Hz. Both have 4-speaker audio and Smart Connector. Last 12.9-inch with Lightning and Home button. Free diagnostic. Written quote before any work begins. 6-month warranty on all repairs.

The first- and second-generation 12.9-inch Pro predate ProMotion and Face ID, running on a standard 60Hz LCD panel with a Home button and Touch ID. Their large glass panel and battery are both original-design, non-modular parts, so age-related battery swelling on these now-legacy units is one of the more common issues we see — usually caught before it pushes hard enough to crack the digitiser from underneath.

Frequently asked questions — iPad Pro 12.9-inch 1st & 2nd gen

How do I identify my iPad Pro 12.9-inch 1st & 2nd gen?

The model number is printed in small text on the back of the device. The iPad Pro 12.9-inch 1st & 2nd gen uses model numbers A1584 / A1652 (1st gen) · A1670 / A1671 / A1821 (2nd gen). Go to Settings — General — About — Model Number. Tapping the model number toggles between the marketing name and the technical identifier. Having your model number ready means we can give you an accurate quote immediately.

Is the iPad Pro 12.9-inch 1st & 2nd gen display laminated?

Fully laminated — the glass is fused directly to the LCD panel. Glass-only refurbishment is available using our OCA lamination machine — we separate the broken glass and re-laminate new OEM-grade glass onto the original Apple LCD panel, keeping it intact. Full assembly replacement is also available for faster 24-48 hour turnaround.

Can I get a glass-only repair on the iPad Pro 12.9-inch 1st & 2nd gen?

Yes. iAssist has a professional OCA lamination machine and bubble removal machine. We remove the broken glass and fit new OEM-grade glass, keeping your original Apple LCD panel intact. If the touch layer has also been damaged, touch replacement is available separately at a higher price but still preserves your original display. Important: very badly shattered glass can sometimes damage the touch during removal — we assess after glass removal and advise you before any extra work. Your LCD panel is never at risk. Takes 3-5 days for the adhesive to cure properly.

Does the iPad Pro 12.9-inch 1st & 2nd gen support Apple Pencil?

Yes — iPad Pro 12.9-inch 1st & 2nd gen supports Apple Pencil 1st generation. We use OEM-specification digitizer glass for all screen repairs to ensure full Pencil compatibility is preserved — pressure sensitivity, tilt, palm rejection, and hover where supported.

Where is Touch ID on the iPad Pro 12.9-inch 1st & 2nd gen?

In the Home button at the bottom of the device. Touch ID is cryptographically paired to the Secure Enclave — a replacement Home button will click but fingerprint recognition will not function. We explain this before any Home button repair.

Does the iPad Pro 12.9-inch 1st & 2nd gen have Face ID?

No — iPad Pro 12.9-inch 1st & 2nd gen uses Home button Touch ID. Face ID was not available on this model.

What charging port does the iPad Pro 12.9-inch 1st & 2nd gen use, and is it repairable?

The iPad Pro 12.9-inch 1st & 2nd gen uses a Lightning port. The port is soldered to the logic board. Micro-soldering repairs damaged pins or replaces the full port socket — data is preserved and no board replacement needed. Typical cost: R1,200 – R1,600 (micro-soldering).

How long does iPad Pro 12.9-inch 1st & 2nd gen repair take at iAssist?

Screen and battery replacements are typically done within 24-48 hours. Glass-only refurbishment takes 3-5 days for the OCA adhesive to cure. Port micro-soldering takes 24-48 hours. Logic board and liquid damage repairs take 2-4 business days. All turnaround times confirmed at booking.

Is it worth repairing my iPad Pro 12.9-inch 1st & 2nd gen?

In most cases yes. The iPad Pro 12.9-inch 1st & 2nd gen (2015–2017) uses the A9X (1st gen) / A10X Fusion (2nd gen) — still capable for everyday tasks. Battery replacement at R1,200 and screen repairs cost a fraction of a new device. For complex logic board faults we give an honest free diagnostic assessment before recommending any repair — we only suggest repair when it genuinely makes financial sense.

Do you offer collection and delivery for iPad repairs?

Yes — door-to-door collection and return across Gauteng for R300 via Eliz Courier, fully insured. Outside Gauteng we use The Courier Guy for insured nationwide shipping. WhatsApp 078 742 4769 to arrange.
