iPhone Battery Replacement Near Melrose Arch, Melrose North

iPhone Battery Replacement Near Melrose Arch, Melrose North

Melrose Arch is about 5.6 km from our workshop at Shop 4, Silvercrest Shopping Centre, 11 Swemmer Rd, Silvamonte, Johannesburg, 2192. That's roughly 12 to 20 minutes via Atholl-Oaklands Road, Athol Street (M20) and Northfield Avenue (M40). iPhone battery replacements start from R650. Most are done while you wait, with a free diagnostic and a 6-month written warranty. If you can't leave the office, we collect for a flat R300.

Long Days at Melrose Arch Are Hard on an Old Battery

Melrose Arch isn't a mall. It's a mixed-use precinct between Rosebank and Sandton, with direct access to the M1 and pedestrian-first cobbled streets. Offices, apartments and shops sit around the Piazza and Melrose Square, and the precinct is owned by the Amdec Group. It also has four hotels with more than 700 rooms between them, including the Marriott, African Pride and Protea Fire & Ice! hotels. So the people whose iPhones run flat here are a mix: office workers in the blue-chip tenancies, residents, and visitors in town for a few days.

A typical day here is hard on a tired battery. You park underground, sit through back-to-back video calls, hotspot a laptop when the office Wi-Fi drops, then follow your map app onto the M1 at five o'clock. A healthy battery copes with that. One that's down to 80% capacity or less starts shutting down at 25%, dimming the screen or slowing the phone. You usually notice when you need the phone most, like paying for parking or approving a banking login.

We don't have a branch at Melrose Arch. Our workshop is in Silvamonte, a short drive east, and every battery replacement is done there.

What Drains an iPhone Around the Precinct

Not every flat battery is a worn battery. This table shows how a normal Melrose Arch day affects a healthy battery compared with a worn one, so you can tell which one you have.

Where you are Why it uses power Healthy battery Worn battery
Underground parking and inner offices Weak signal makes the phone search for a network Drains faster, recovers outside Drops fast, or shuts down with charge showing
Video calls and hotspotting a laptop Screen, camera, radio and processor all working at once Warm, steady drain Sudden jumps in percentage, hot to the touch
Navigation on the M1 or Corlett Drive GPS, a bright screen and mobile data together Lasts the drive Needs a car charger to survive the trip
A full day as a hotel guest or visitor Boarding passes, maps, bookings and photos, far from your charger Gets you to the evening Dead by mid-afternoon

Check Settings > Battery > Battery Health (on newer iOS versions, Battery Health & Charging). If Maximum Capacity is around 80% or lower, or you see a "Service" message, the battery is worn. Apple explains how this works, including why an ageing battery slows the phone down, in its guide to iPhone battery and performance.

Battery, Charging Port or Something Deeper?

A phone that won't last the day can also be a charging fault. A lint-packed port at the end of a long week can look exactly like a dead battery. So can a damaged charging chip, or a phone that keeps restarting on its own. These are the related repairs we check for in the same free diagnostic:

  • Charging port repair (from R550): charges only at an angle, cable falls out, or "Accessory not supported".
  • Charging IC repair (assessment + quote): no charging at all, or the percentage sticks even though the cable and port are fine.
  • Restart loop repair (assessment + quote): the phone restarts every few minutes. Sometimes it's a failing battery, sometimes a sensor flex. We read the panic log to find out which.
  • Logic board repair (assessment + quote): board-level faults found under the microscope after the simpler causes are ruled out.

If a new battery isn't the fix, we tell you before you pay for one.

Two Office iPhones, Two Different Battery Jobs

A five-year-old Pro and a two-year-old Pro Max both get a new battery here, but the jobs aren't the same.

iPhone 12 Pro (2020)

The iPhone 12 Pro is still a common work phone, and at five years old it's at the age when most original batteries reach the end of their service life. A replacement costs R1,200 with an aftermarket battery or R1,500 with an OEM battery. It's a straightforward swap, and because the A14 chip is still quick, a new battery usually gives this phone another couple of years.

iPhone 15 Pro Max (2023)

The iPhone 15 Pro Max is younger, but it's harder to work on. From the iPhone 15 onwards the battery is paired to the phone, so a standard replacement shows an "unknown part" message and may report battery health wrongly. We fit decoded batteries and transfer the battery data so Settings keeps reading correctly. A failing battery on this model can also cause restarts every few minutes, which is why we check the panic log first. Replacement costs R1,200 aftermarket or R1,800 OEM.

Prices and What's Included

Every price includes parts, labour and a 6-month written warranty. You choose an aftermarket or an OEM battery, and the written quote says which one goes in. Nothing is done until you approve it.

iPhone Aftermarket OEM
iPhone 8 R650 R1,000
iPhone SE (2020 / 2022) R750 R1,200
iPhone 11 R850 R1,500
iPhone 12 Pro R1,200 R1,500
iPhone 13 / 14 (most models) R1,000 R1,500
iPhone 15 Pro Max R1,200 R1,800
iPhone 16 and 17 series Quoted after the free diagnostic

See every model on our iPhone battery replacement page. Our battery replacement cost guide explains what drives the price. A battery swap doesn't wipe the phone, but it's still worth backing up first.

From the Piazza to Swemmer Road

Leave the precinct on Melrose Boulevard and turn onto Atholl-Oaklands Road. Follow the M31 along Scott Street, then cut through on Stirling and Hamlin Streets to Athol Street (M20). Stay on the M20 to Northfield Avenue (M40), which takes you east into Silvamonte. It's about 5.6 km and usually 12 to 20 minutes. Allow longer at 17:00, when everyone is heading for the M1.

  • Address: Shop 4, Silvercrest Shopping Centre, 11 Swemmer Rd, Silvamonte, Johannesburg, 2192
  • Monday to Friday: 9:00 to 17:00
  • Saturday: 9:00 to 13:00
  • Sunday: closed

Walk-ins are welcome, and you don't need an appointment. Most battery replacements take 30 to 60 minutes, so you can wait or come back after lunch.

Can't Leave Your Desk?

Our Gauteng collection service picks your iPhone up and brings it back after the repair, for a flat R300 that's separate from the repair price. We collect from Melrose Arch offices and apartments, and from homes in Melrose North, Birnam and Melrose. Most Melrose Arch buildings have a reception or security desk, so tell us the building name and who the driver should ask for when you book. If the phone still turns on, back it up first.

Why People at Melrose Arch Use Us

We've been repairing devices since 2003, and customers rate us 4.9 stars on Google. iAssist is an independent workshop, not an Apple Authorised Service Provider, so we never call our batteries genuine Apple parts. Your quote states exactly which battery is fitted. The diagnostic is free whether or not you go ahead.

Batteries are one of many iPhone repairs we do, and you can look up your model for screens, cameras and more. Nearby, see our pages for Apple repair at Melrose Arch, Rosebank, Sandton and Hyde Park. Our local guides also cover iPad camera repairs near Blubird, just up Atholl-Oaklands Road, and Apple Watch batteries near James & Ethel Gray Park in Melrose. For more on the precinct itself, visit the Melrose Arch website.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far is your workshop from Melrose Arch?

About 5.6 km, usually 12 to 20 minutes via Melrose Boulevard, Atholl-Oaklands Road, Athol Street (M20) and Northfield Avenue (M40). We're at Shop 4, Silvercrest Shopping Centre, 11 Swemmer Rd, Silvamonte, Johannesburg, 2192. We don't have a branch at Melrose Arch, but we collect from there for a flat R300.

My iPhone drains fastest in the parking garage and my office. Is it the battery?

Not always. A weak signal underground or deep inside a building makes any iPhone search for a network, which uses extra power. If the phone recovers once you're outside, that's normal. If it shuts down with charge still showing, or Battery Health is around 80% or lower, the battery is worn. The diagnostic is free.

I'm staying at a Melrose Arch hotel for a few days. Can my battery be done in time?

Usually, yes. Most battery replacements take 30 to 60 minutes while you wait at our Silvamonte workshop, about 15 minutes' drive away. WhatsApp us your model first so we can check stock. iPhone 16 and 17 batteries are quoted individually, and parts for those can take longer.

How much is an iPhone battery replacement?

From R650 for an iPhone 8 with an aftermarket battery. An iPhone 12 Pro is R1,200 aftermarket or R1,500 OEM, and an iPhone 15 Pro Max is R1,200 aftermarket or R1,800 OEM, with a decoded battery so Battery Health still reads correctly. Every price includes labour and a 6-month written warranty.
