Xbox Series X & S Power Supply Repair Johannesburg
Xbox Series X & S Power Supply Repair Johannesburg
You press the power button and nothing happens — no white Xbox logo, no fan, no startup sound. Or the logo flashes on, there's a click, and the console goes dark again. Most of the time it happened the moment the power came back after load shedding or a storm. Both the Series X and Series S have their power supply built in, so the surge hits it directly; usually that's the only part that's failed. When it isn't, the fault is in the board's power circuits. We test each stage, replace only what's failed, and soak-test the console before it goes back to you.

Xbox Series power faults by model
Xbox Series X (Model 1882)
Internal power supply · figure-8 power cable · disc and Digital Edition
The Series X has its power supply built into the bottom of the console, fed by a two-pin figure-8 cable — there's no external brick to swap. It's a large supply, built to run the console flat out, and it sits first in line when the mains power spikes. A Series X that went dead the moment the power came back usually has a failed supply and an otherwise healthy board. We test the supply's output on the bench before quoting, so you know which it is.
Most common faults:
- Dead after load shedding or a storm
- Logo flashes, click, then nothing
- Switching off under load in demanding games
- Burning smell from the bottom vents
Xbox Series S (Model 1883)
Smaller internal power supply · figure-8 power cable · digital only
The Series S has a smaller internal supply in a much tighter case, and it's usually plugged into a shared multiplug behind the TV — exactly where surges and loose plugs happen. It fails the same ways as the Series X: dead after a surge, or clicking on and off. Before you bring it in, try another figure-8 cable and plug it straight into the wall; it rules out the simple things.
Most common faults:
- Dead after a surge
- Only works in one wall socket or multiplug
- Clicks on and straight off
- Not waking from sleep
Xbox Series power faults — what's happening and how we fix it
Completely dead — no logo, no fan, no sound
Start with the simple things. Try another figure-8 power cable and another wall socket, plugged in directly rather than through a multiplug or adapter. Then power-cycle it: unplug the cable for at least 10 seconds, plug it back in and press the Xbox button on the console. Faulty cables and tripped multiplugs cause more 'dead Xboxes' than you'd think.
If there's still nothing, the internal power supply is the most likely cause. We test its output on the bench before quoting, so you know it's the supply and not the board. Internal power supply from R1,800.

When the power comes back after load shedding, or lightning hits the grid, there's often a spike. The Xbox's built-in power supply takes the hit first. Stop trying to switch it on once it's dead — repeated attempts with a damaged supply can spread the damage to the board.
In most cases replacing the supply brings it back. If the surge got further, we test the board's power circuits too, and quote for everything before any work starts. Power supply from R1,800 · board-level power repair from R1,800.

If the Xbox logo lights for a moment and the console switches straight off, power is reaching the board but something stops it starting. It can be a power supply that collapses as soon as the console draws more power, or a short on the board's power circuits. If it starts but shuts down after a while in games, that's more often heat — see Xbox Series overheating repair.
We test the supply under load and then the board's power stages, so you only pay for the part that's failed. From R1,800.

If the console starts from its own power button but not from the controller, that isn't a power supply fault. Check the controller's batteries and pairing, and check the power settings: in energy-saving mode the console switches fully off and can't be woken by the controller in the same way. If neither the button nor the controller works, see the faults above.
Get a quote for this on WhatsApp →Burning smell, a crackle or a pop
Unplug the console from the wall straight away and don't try it again. A pop or a burning smell usually means a component in the power supply has failed. Don't open the console to look: the supply holds mains voltage, and it can stay charged after it's unplugged.
We open it safely, check whether the damage stopped at the supply, and quote in writing. Power supply from R1,800.

If the supply delivers the right voltages and the Xbox still won't start, the fault is on the motherboard — usually a shorted component or a failed power-management chip on one of the power rails. We find it with the board on the bench, replace the failed part under the microscope and test the console under a full gaming load. Board-level power repair from R1,800.

- Try another power cable and socket first, plugged straight into the wall.
- After a surge, stop pressing the button. Repeated attempts can turn a power-supply repair into a board repair.
- Don't open it. The power supply holds mains voltage even when unplugged.
- Tell us what happened — load shedding, a storm, a pop, or a slow decline.
- Your games and saves stay as they are. A power repair doesn't touch the console's storage.
A line about what happened when it died, plus the Model number from the sticker, is usually enough for us to give you a starting price on WhatsApp.

Xbox Series X|S power supply repair — frequently asked questions
How much does an Xbox Series X or Series S power supply repair cost?
Internal power supply replacement starts from R1,800 on both the Series X and Series S. If the fault is on the board, board-level power repair also starts from R1,800. The diagnostic is free and you get the exact price in writing before any work starts.
My Xbox won't turn on after load shedding. Can it be fixed?
Usually, yes. The surge when the power comes back most often damages the internal power supply and leaves the rest of the console untouched. Stop trying to switch it on, and bring it in for a free diagnostic.
Does the Xbox Series X have an external power brick?
No. Both the Series X and Series S have the power supply built in, fed by a two-pin figure-8 cable. That's why a dead supply needs the console opened.
Can a bad power cable stop my Xbox turning on?
Yes. A damaged figure-8 cable, a loose plug or a tripped multiplug can all look like a dead console. Always try another cable and wall socket first.
Why does my Xbox click and turn off?
Power is reaching the board but something stops it starting — usually a power supply that collapses under load, or a short on the board. We test both to find which.
How do I protect my Xbox from load shedding?
Plug it into a good surge protector, switch it off at the wall before scheduled load shedding, and wait a few minutes after the power returns before switching it back on.
Will I lose my games and saves?
No. A power repair doesn't touch the console's storage, so your games, saves and settings stay as they are. Xbox saves also sync to the cloud when the console is online.
Is it worth repairing an Xbox power supply?
Usually, yes. A power supply repair costs a fraction of a new console, and you keep your setup and storage. If the console has other problems that make it not worth it, we'll tell you before you spend anything.
How long does an Xbox power repair take?
Most repairs are done within 3–5 working days after you approve the quote, including a soak test under gaming load. Board-level repairs can take longer, and we'll tell you upfront.
Can you collect my Xbox?
Yes. We collect and deliver across Gauteng for a flat R300 round trip via Eliz Courier, and arrange insured shipping with The Courier Guy anywhere else in South Africa. You can also drop it off at Shop 4, Silvercrest Centre, 11 Swemmer Rd, Silvamonte.
