PS4 HDMI Port Repair Johannesburg
PS4 HDMI Port Repair Johannesburg
The PS4 powers on, the light pulses blue, and the TV says "no signal". After years of cables being pulled, consoles being moved with the HDMI still plugged in, and the odd power surge, the HDMI port is the most common PS4 repair we do. Sometimes it's the HDMI chip behind the port instead. We check both under the microscope, replace only the part that's failed, and test the console on our TV before it goes back to you.

PS4 HDMI repair by model
PS4 original (CUH-1000, 1100 & 1200)
HDMI port soldered to the motherboard · the oldest PS4s
The original PS4 is now ten years old or more, and many have had their HDMI cable pulled out at an angle hundreds of times. The port is soldered straight to the motherboard, so every knock strains its joints until the picture starts dropping out or disappears. Replacing the port means stripping the console down to the board, which is also a good time for a clean and fresh thermal paste. If the port is fine, the HDMI chip behind it is quoted after a free diagnostic.
Most common faults:
- No signal after the console was moved or knocked
- Picture cuts out when the cable is touched
- Bent or pushed-in pins
- No picture after a surge (HDMI chip)
PS4 Slim (CUH-2000, 2100 & 2200)
HDMI port and HDMI chip on the motherboard · the PS4 we repair most
The Slim is light and easy to carry between rooms, so it's the PS4 whose HDMI port takes the most abuse. A cable left plugged in while the console is picked up levers the port off the board. The Slim's HDMI chip is also a known weak point after power surges, so a console with a perfect-looking port can still give no picture. We test both and fix only the one that's failed.
Most common faults:
- Port damaged by moving the console with the cable in
- Loose plug that only works at an angle
- HDMI chip failure after load shedding or a storm
PS4 Pro (CUH-7000, 7100 & 7200)
4K HDMI output · its own port and HDMI chip
The Pro outputs 4K and HDR, so it uses a different HDMI port and chip from the other PS4s, which is why its repairs cost a little more. Faults often start with flickering or black screens at 4K before the picture disappears completely. Try a new high-speed HDMI cable first, because 4K needs a better cable than older games did. If that doesn't fix it, the port or chip needs replacing.
Most common faults:
- Flicker or black screens at 4K
- No signal after a knock
- HDMI chip failure after a surge
PS4 HDMI faults — and what each one usually means
No signal, light pulsing blue
Rule out the simple things first: another HDMI cable, another TV input, and another TV if you have one. Then try safe mode: switch the console off, hold the power button until the second beep (about 7 seconds), connect the controller with a USB cable and choose Change Resolution. If you get a picture, it was a video setting, not hardware.
If there's still nothing, the HDMI port or the HDMI chip has usually failed. A pulsing blue light with no picture can also be the power supply or hard drive — see our PS4 blue light guide. We test everything before quoting. HDMI port from R1,200 (Pro R1,400).

Short black-outs, sparkles on screen or sound dropping out usually mean a cracked solder joint or a worn pin that only just makes contact. It often gets worse when the cable is touched or the console warms up. Try a new HDMI cable first. If that doesn't help, the port needs replacing before it fails completely. HDMI port from R1,200 (Pro R1,400).

A plug that wobbles, falls out or only works in one position means the port's metal shell or its solder joints have come loose from the board. Don't keep forcing it — pressing on a loose port can short neighbouring pins and damage the HDMI chip too, turning a port repair into a bigger one. HDMI port from R1,200 (Pro R1,400).

Shine a torch into the port. If the centre tongue is bent, cracked or pushed back, or there are dark marks around the pins, the port is physically damaged and has to be replaced. Burn marks can mean the HDMI chip took a hit as well, so we always test it after fitting the new port. HDMI port from R1,200 (Pro R1,400) · HDMI chip from R1,500 if it's also damaged.

Behind the port is the HDMI chip, which turns the console's video into an HDMI signal. It's sensitive to surges from load shedding, lightning and faulty TV or soundbar connections, and it can fail while the port looks brand new. Replacing it is micro-soldering work done under the microscope. HDMI chip from R1,500 (Slim) or R1,800 (Pro) · original PS4 quoted after a free diagnostic.

We regularly see PS4s where a previous HDMI repair has failed: lifted pads, missing tiny parts next to the port, or a poor-quality port. Many can still be rescued by rebuilding the damaged pads and fitting a proper port, but it takes longer than a normal repair. Bring it in for a free diagnostic and we'll tell you honestly whether it can be saved and what it will cost.

- Try safe mode and another cable first. Hold power until the second beep and choose Change Resolution.
- Stop pushing the plug in. Forcing a loose cable can damage the HDMI chip as well as the port.
- Bring the HDMI cable you use so we can test it too.
- Your games and saves stay on the console. An HDMI repair doesn't touch the hard drive.
- Tell us if it happened after a power surge — that points us towards the HDMI chip.
A photo into the HDMI port with a torch, plus the CUH- number from the sticker, is usually enough for us to tell you on WhatsApp whether it's the port.

Common questionsPS4 HDMI port repair — frequently asked questions
How much does a PS4 HDMI port repair cost?
HDMI port replacement starts from R1,200 on the PS4 original and PS4 Slim, and from R1,400 on the PS4 Pro. If the HDMI chip has failed, it starts from R1,500 on the Slim and R1,800 on the Pro; the original PS4 is quoted after a free diagnostic. You get the exact price in writing before any work starts.
My PS4 has a blue light but no picture. Is it the HDMI port?
Often, yes. Try another cable, another TV input and safe mode first. If there's still no picture, the HDMI port or chip is the most likely cause, although the power supply or hard drive can cause the same symptom. We diagnose it for free.
How do I know if it's the port or the HDMI chip?
A port fault usually follows physical damage: the console was moved with the cable in, the plug feels loose, or the pins look bent. A chip fault usually follows a power surge, and the port looks perfect. We check both under the microscope before quoting.
Why does the PS4 Pro HDMI repair cost more?
The Pro outputs 4K and HDR, so it uses a different, more expensive HDMI port and chip from the original PS4 and the Slim.
Can a damaged HDMI cable cause this?
Yes. A cable with a bent plug or broken wires can cause flicker or no signal, and a bent plug can damage the port. Always try another cable first, and bring yours in so we can check it.
Will I lose my games and saves?
No. An HDMI repair doesn't touch the hard drive, so your games, saves and settings stay exactly as they are.
Is it worth repairing an old PS4?
Usually, yes. An HDMI repair costs a fraction of a replacement console, and you keep your games and saves. If the console has other problems that make the repair not worth it, we'll tell you before you spend anything.
How long does a PS4 HDMI repair take?
Most PS4 repairs are done within 3–5 working days after you approve the quote, including a test on our TV with a game running. HDMI chip repairs and rescues of previous repairs can take longer, and we'll tell you upfront.
Is there a warranty on PS4 HDMI repairs?
Yes. Every PS4 HDMI repair carries a 6-month warranty on parts and labour.
Can you collect my PS4?
Yes. We collect and deliver across Gauteng for a flat R300 round trip via Eliz Courier, and arrange insured shipping with The Courier Guy anywhere else in South Africa. You can also drop it off at Shop 4, Silvercrest Centre, 11 Swemmer Rd, Silvamonte.
