Why does only one USB-C port work on my MacBook Pro?

Is a dead USB-C port a logic board replacement?
Not necessarily. Most port faults are the USB-C daughterboard or a controller IC — both replaceable at far lower cost than the logic board.
My MacBook Pro is completely dead — is it the USB-C port?

Does MacBook Pro have Thunderbolt 4?
M-series MacBook Pro 14/16-inch have Thunderbolt 4 (up to 40Gb/s). Intel 2016–2020 models have Thunderbolt 3. Non-Retina and Retina Intel models have Thunderbolt 1 or 2.
My Thunderbolt dock drops connection randomly — is it the Mac or the dock?

Can both Thunderbolt ports fail at the same time?
Yes — if the shared USB-C board fails, all ports on that board die. On 4-port MacBook Pros (15/16-inch) this means two ports die while the other two remain. On 2-port models both ports die.
Does USB-C repair affect Touch ID or Touch Bar?
No. USB-C board and controller repair is isolated and does not affect Touch ID, Touch Bar, or keyboard.
