MacBook Pro macOS Upgrade via OpenCore | iAssist
MacBook Pro macOS UpgradeJohannesburg & Gauteng
Apple says your 2014 MacBook Pro can't run modern macOS. We respectfully disagree — and so does OpenCore Legacy Patcher. Apple cut Sonoma support for anything before 2018 and Sequoia for anything before 2020, but your Retina MacBook Pro still has years of life left. OCLP loads modern macOS on unsupported Intel hardware, with patches that restore graphics, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and audio. The sweet spot is the 2013-2015 Retina 13-inch and 15-inch — fast enough hardware that Apple abandoned for marketing reasons, not technical ones. The 2012 models work too, though we recommend pairing OCLP with an SSD upgrade for usable speed. We do clean Sonoma and Sequoia installs — R1,500 flat fee includes data migration, full driver patching, and a tested boot. In South Africa, where the Rand makes a new MacBook Pro feel like a luxury car purchase, squeezing another 3-5 years from a perfectly good machine just makes sense. Free diagnostic, R300 Gauteng collection.

MacBook Pro software situations we handle
MacBook Pro stuck on old macOS — cannot update
Common on 2013–2017 Intel MacBook Pros that Apple dropped from native Sonoma support. The hardware is still capable — iAssist installs Sonoma via OpenCore Legacy Patcher, restoring security updates and current app compatibility.
Slow and bloated macOS
Years of software accumulation slow any Mac. A clean macOS install with selective data migration restores performance.
macOS upgrade failed — machine stuck in boot loop
Failed update leaves the machine unable to boot. Internet Recovery reinstalls macOS from Apple's servers. If the SSD failed during the upgrade, replacement is required first.
New MacBook Pro setup — data migration from old machine
Migrating data from an old Intel or M-series Mac to a new MacBook Pro. Migration Assistant or selective file transfer.
Slow after a major macOS update
A major update can trigger Spotlight re-indexing or iCloud sync that causes temporary slowness. If it persists beyond 48 hours, bring it in — the cause may be hardware or software.
Business setup — apps, accounts, security
Microsoft 365, FileVault, VPN, MDM. Custom quote for business configuration.

Which MacBook Pro models can run Sonoma natively?
MacBook Pro 2017 and later run Sonoma natively. 2013–2016 models require OCLP for Sonoma.
Can I run Sonoma on a 2015 MacBook Pro?
Yes via OpenCore Legacy Patcher. iAssist installs and configures OCLP for R1,500. An SSD upgrade at the same time gives the best experience on these older models.
What is OCLP?
OpenCore Legacy Patcher patches macOS to run on Macs Apple no longer officially supports. It is mature, stable, and widely used for daily use.
How long does a clean macOS install take?
1–3 hours depending on internet speed and data migration complexity.
My MacBook Pro is stuck in a boot loop — what do I do?
Hold the power button to force off. Restart holding Option+Command+R for Internet Recovery. If you cannot get there, bring it in.
Can you move my data from my old MacBook Pro to a new one?
Yes — iAssist handles Migration Assistant and selective file transfers between any Mac models.
Will OCLP break with future macOS updates?
OCLP is updated with each major macOS release. iAssist can update your OCLP installation when new versions arrive.
Does clean install delete my data?
No — iAssist backs up all data before any clean install. Data is migrated back to the clean system.
How much does macOS upgrade cost?
Clean install from R900. OCLP for older models R1,500. Data migration from R600. Free diagnostic if unsure what you need.
Is OCLP stable for professional work?
Yes. For everyday use — web, email, Office, media — OCLP Sonoma is completely stable. Some GPU acceleration features on very old hardware are limited but do not affect typical use.
