MacBook Pro Fan & Thermal ServiceJohannesburg & Gauteng
That jet-engine noise during your Zoom call isn't someone mowing their lawn — it's your MacBook Pro begging for help. The 2016-2019 Touch Bar era crammed Intel performance chips into a chassis Apple later admitted was designed for cooler silicon. The result: fans screaming at 6000+ RPM, kernel_task hogging your CPU, and palmrests hot enough to braai a wors roll on. Highveld summers push ambient temps past 35°C, and fine Joburg dust coats fan blades within a year — your MacBook never stood a chance. Most of this is solved by cleaning, not replacing: we strip the cooling system completely, clean fans ultrasonically, replace dried-out thermal paste with high-quality compound rated for sustained loads, and re-seat heat sinks with correct torque. Typical result: 10-20°C drop in temperatures, fan noise back to factory quiet, no more throttling. WhatsApp us a screenshot of your temps — we'll tell you if it's worth booking. Free diagnostic, R300 Gauteng collection.

MacBook Pro overheating problems we fix
Thermal throttling under sustained load
All MacBook Pros — even M-series with active cooling — can throttle under extreme sustained workloads. On Intel models with aged thermal paste (4+ years), CPU temperatures regularly exceed 90°C causing the SMC to reduce clock speed to manage heat. Thermal paste replacement with a quality compound reduces temperatures by 10–25°C.
Fan grinding or rattling noise
Bearing wear inside the fan causes grinding at certain RPMs. A failing fan bearing will eventually seize — leaving the machine with no active cooling. Fan replacement required. Running with a grinding fan accelerates CPU and GPU degradation.
Fan running at full speed all the time
Fan stuck at maximum RPM despite normal load usually indicates a failed temperature sensor or SMC fault. On Intel models, battery thermistor failure triggers this. Battery replacement resolves most constant-fan cases.
Fan not spinning at all
Silent fan when it should be active causes immediate thermal throttling and emergency shutdown. Fan motor failure, broken cable, or board-level fault on the fan power rail. Fan replacement in most cases.
MacBook Pro hot to the touch during normal use
Chassis running hot during light use is usually dried or cracked thermal paste on older Intel models. Thermal paste replacement returns temperatures to normal operating range.
Fan noise after liquid spill
Liquid ingress into the fan housing degrades the bearing. Fan replacement after liquid damage rather than cleaning — contaminated bearings wear rapidly.

Does the M-series MacBook Pro overheat?
M-series MacBook Pros run far cooler than Intel models but they do have fans and can throttle under extreme sustained load — large ML training runs, extended 4K/8K video exports, sustained high GPU workloads. For typical professional use the M-series thermal design is excellent.
How much difference does thermal paste replacement make on an Intel MacBook Pro?
On a 4+ year old Intel MacBook Pro with dried paste, fresh premium thermal compound typically reduces CPU peak temperature by 10–25°C. This significantly reduces or eliminates throttling during sustained workloads.
My MacBook Pro fan runs at full speed — what is wrong?
Most likely a failed temperature sensor. On Intel models the battery thermistor is the most common culprit. Battery replacement resolves constant fan in most cases. Run Apple Diagnostics (hold Option+D on startup) for error codes.
Is it normal for MacBook Pro fans to run loudly during video export?
Yes — sustained CPU/GPU workloads like video export spin the fans to full speed. This is normal thermal management. If fans run loudly during light tasks like web browsing, thermal paste replacement or a temperature sensor diagnosis is warranted.
Can I use my MacBook Pro while the fan is grinding?
Not for long. A failing fan bearing will seize. Once it seizes the machine has no active cooling and will thermally throttle to minimum performance within minutes of load. Fan replacement is urgent if the grinding is getting worse.
How long does fan replacement take?
Same-day if we have the specific fan in stock. Next-day if we need to order. WhatsApp 078 742 4769 to confirm availability for your model.
Do 14/16-inch M-series MacBook Pros have one or two fans?
14-inch M-series has one fan. 16-inch M-series has two fans. Both also have large heat spreaders compared to the 13-inch fanless MacBook Pro.
How much does MacBook Pro fan replacement cost?
Varies by model. Single fan or dual fan replacement confirmed before booking. Free diagnostic to confirm the fan is the fault before quoting.
Can thermal service improve battery life?
Yes — a CPU running cooler draws less power, which improves battery life on Intel models. M-series models already run efficiently but thermal paste replacement after 5+ years can modestly improve battery run time.
What warranty does thermal service carry?
6-month warranty on all fan replacements. Thermal paste service warranty covers the workmanship.
