MacBook Pro Data RecoveryJohannesburg & Gauteng

Your thesis. Your wedding photos. Three years of accounting records. All trapped on a MacBook Pro that stares back at you with a flashing folder icon and zero remorse. Your Time Machine backup? Last ran sometime during the previous president's term. We've been here — and we get data back. Pre-2015 models have removable PCIe SSDs we can clone directly on a USB-C adapter. 2016-2019 Touch Bar with T2 chip have soldered storage with hardware encryption — recovery requires a working logic board and the T2 chip intact. M-series Apple Silicon is the hardest: storage is integrated into the SoC itself, so the only data path is through the original board. We specialise in board-level recovery — repairing whatever component is blocking boot just enough to clone your files off, even when the laptop itself isn't worth fixing. Load shedding surge killed the board but the data is fine? That's our Tuesday. Free diagnostic, written quote, R300 Gauteng collection.

MacBook Pro data recovery situations

Dead logic board — Intel MacBook Pro (removable SSD)

Intel MacBook Pros (A1502, A1398, A1706, A1707, A1989, A1990, A2251, A2289, A2141) have proprietary SSD blades that can be removed from a dead board and read via a USB adapter. Even if the logic board is completely dead, your data is safe on the SSD blade.

Dead logic board — M-series MacBook Pro (soldered SSD)

M-series MacBook Pros have SSDs soldered to the logic board with hardware encryption tied to the Secure Enclave. Data recovery requires micro-soldering to restore the power path to the board so the SSD can be read. Do not power on after failure — bring it in immediately.

Failed or corrupted SSD

An SSD that fails to mount or shows errors in Disk Utility. First line: Disk Utility First Aid, then DiskWarrior or similar. If the SSD has failed at hardware level, sector-level extraction tools are used.

Accidentally deleted files

Files deleted from the SSD can be recovered if the storage space hasn't been overwritten. Stop using the machine immediately — every write operation reduces recovery chances. iAssist uses specialised recovery tools.

Failed Time Machine backup

Time Machine backup drive failure or corrupted backup. iAssist recovers data from failed Time Machine backup drives alongside the MacBook Pro.

macOS won't boot — data intact

A machine that fails to boot but whose SSD is physically intact — either boot drive failure or corrupted macOS. Data can be accessed by booting from external media or removing the SSD.

MacBook Pro data recovery — questions we get asked

Can data be recovered from a completely dead MacBook Pro?

On Intel models with removable SSD blades yes — the SSD can be extracted and read even from a machine with a completely dead logic board. On M-series the SSD is soldered with hardware encryption — micro-soldering to restore the power path is required.

My M-series MacBook Pro died and the SSD is soldered — is my data gone?

Not necessarily. M-series data recovery is possible but requires restoring the power path via micro-soldering so the machine can authenticate the encrypted SSD. Bring it in immediately — the sooner the better for recovery success.

I accidentally deleted important files — what should I do?

Stop using the machine immediately. Every write to the SSD risks overwriting the deleted data. Bring it in for recovery as soon as possible. Do not install software, do not copy files, do not run updates.

How likely is data recovery to succeed?

Intel SSD extraction from a dead board: very high success rate. M-series micro-soldering recovery: good success rate if the SSD itself is undamaged. Corrupted SSD: depends on the failure type. iAssist gives an honest assessment after the diagnostic.

Do you have a no data no charge policy?

Yes. If iAssist cannot recover your data, you do not pay for the recovery attempt. The initial diagnostic fee (R350) applies — this is waived if recovery is successful.

How long does data recovery take?

Intel SSD extraction and read: same-day to next-day. M-series micro-soldering recovery: 2–4 days. Deleted file recovery: 1–3 days depending on drive size.

Can data be recovered from a liquid-damaged MacBook Pro?

Yes in most cases, especially on Intel models. Even severe liquid damage often leaves the SSD intact. On M-series the SSD is protected within the chip package and survives liquid damage better than the surrounding board components.

What format is the recovered data delivered in?

iAssist delivers recovered data on an external drive or transfers directly to a new machine or SSD depending on what the client needs.

Is recovered data encrypted or readable?

Intel MacBook Pro SSD data: readable directly once extracted. M-series: hardware encryption means the SSD can only be decrypted on the original machine — which is why restoring the power path is required.

How much does MacBook Pro data recovery cost?

Depends on recovery method and complexity. Free diagnostic to assess. No data — no charge for the recovery attempt. Written quote before work begins.
