It's a charging IC failure at board level, usually triggered by a cheap or non-MFi USB-C cable on the 15 and 16 — phone stuck reading 1%, sometimes with an unresponsive touchscreen alongside it. We haven't found anyone near Hatfield doing this at component level; we replace the IC and EEPROM ourselves, 24–72 hour turnaround, 6-month warranty.
