Nintendo Switch 2 Repair Johannesburg
Nintendo Switch 2 Repair Johannesburg
The Switch 2 is Nintendo's biggest handheld yet: a 7.9-inch screen, Joy-Con 2 controllers that snap on with magnets, and a USB-C port on the top as well as the bottom. It's also new, so the first question is whether Nintendo's warranty still covers it. For accidental damage — a cracked screen, a Joy-Con 2 that drifts or won't stay attached, a console that stopped charging — we assess it for free and give you a written quote. Parts are still limited, so every Switch 2 repair is priced individually.

The Switch 2 is noticeably bigger than every other Switch, with a 7.9-inch screen. Its Joy-Con 2 controllers attach with magnets and come off with a release button on the back — they don't slide down rails. The right Joy-Con 2 has an extra C button, and the console has a USB-C port on the top edge as well as the bottom. On screen: System Settings → System → Serial Information.

Switch 2, Joy-Con 2 and dock — what goes wrong
Switch 2 console
Launched June 2025 · 7.9-inch 1080p screen · 256GB storage · two USB-C ports
The bigger screen is the part most likely to be damaged, usually from a drop or from being sat on in a bag. The Switch 2 also has two USB-C ports, one on the bottom and one on the top, so a loose or damaged port doesn't always stop it charging, but it does need fixing before it gets worse. Its charging circuit is as sensitive to cheap third-party chargers and docks as the earlier Switch models.
Most common faults:
- Cracked screen from a drop
- Lines, black screen or touch not responding
- Loose or damaged USB-C port
- Not charging after a third-party charger or dock
- Game cards not detected
Joy-Con 2 controllers
Magnetic attachment · release button on the back · mouse sensor on the inner edge · C button on the right
Joy-Con 2 controllers use the same kind of analogue stick as earlier Joy-Cons, so they can drift in the same way. They also have new parts that can fail: the magnetic connector that holds them to the console, the release button, and the optical sensor that lets you use them as a mouse. If a Joy-Con 2 keeps falling off, won't connect when attached or the mouse cursor jumps, bring it in with the console so we can test both.
Most common faults:
- Stick drift
- Joy-Con 2 won't stay attached or isn't detected
- Release button stuck
- Mouse function not tracking
- Buttons or shoulder triggers not responding
Switch 2 dock
HDMI out · USB · LAN port · built-in fan
The Switch 2 dock is bigger than earlier docks and has its own built-in fan. Like every Switch dock, it holds the HDMI port, so a TV fault can be in the dock or in the console. We test both. If the console works in another Switch 2 dock, the fault is in yours.
Most common faults:
- No picture on the TV
- Console not charging in the dock
- Dock fan noisy or not spinning
Switch 2 faults we fix — and what each one usually means
Cracked screen, lines or touch not working
If the screen is cracked, shows lines or dark patches, goes black while the console still makes sounds, or stops responding to touch, the screen needs replacing. Keep a cracked Switch 2 in a case until it's repaired so the damage doesn't spread.
Before you pay for anything, check whether it's still under Nintendo's warranty. Accidental damage like a crack usually isn't covered, but a screen that failed on its own may be. Screen replacement: free assessment and written quote.

Drift first: try System Settings → Controllers and Accessories → Calibrate Control Sticks. If the drift comes back, the stick is worn and needs replacing.
If the Joy-Con 2 doesn't click on firmly, falls off, or isn't detected when attached, the magnetic connector or its contacts are usually damaged or dirty. A stuck release button or a mouse sensor that doesn't track are separate faults we can also repair. Joy-Con 2 repairs: free assessment and written quote.

Leave it on the official charger for at least an hour, try the other USB-C port, then hold the power button for about 15 seconds. If it still won't charge, the usual causes are a damaged USB-C port or the charging chip on the board.
The charging chip is the part most often damaged by cheap third-party chargers and docks. We replace it at component level rather than replacing the whole board. Charging repairs: free assessment and written quote.

Check the dock's power and HDMI cables, try another TV input, and if you can, try the console in another Switch 2 dock. If it works there, the dock is at fault. If not, the fault is in the console's video output.
The Switch 2 itself has no HDMI port; the HDMI is on the dock. Older Switch docks aren't designed for the Switch 2, so use the dock that came with it. Dock and video repairs: free assessment and written quote.

Try a second game card first. If one works and another doesn't, the card is the problem. If none are read, the slot's pins may be bent or the reader may be worn.
For storage, the Switch 2 only runs games from microSD Express cards. A normal microSD card from an older Switch won't work for games, which isn't a fault. Slot repairs: free assessment and written quote.

Battery life depends a lot on the game: Nintendo quotes roughly 2 to 6.5 hours. If yours dies much faster than it used to, or the back looks pushed out, stop charging it and bring it in. A loud fan or a hot console usually means dust in the fan. Battery and fan service: free assessment and written quote.

- Check the warranty first. If the console is still under Nintendo's warranty and the fault isn't accidental damage, contact the store you bought it from before anyone opens it.
- Back up your saves. Save data lives on the console's internal storage. With Nintendo Switch Online, check that cloud backup is on.
- Bring the Joy-Con 2s and the dock if the fault is attaching, charging or TV output, so we can test them together.
- If it started after a new charger or dock, tell us, and don't use it again until we've checked it.
- You don't need to give us your Nintendo account password.
A photo of the fault (a cracked screen, the Joy-Con 2 that won't attach) plus a line about what happens is usually enough for us to tell you what's involved on WhatsApp.
How a Switch 2 repair works at iAssist
1. Free diagnostic
We test the screen and touch, both USB-C ports, both Joy-Con 2 connections, TV output through the dock, the game card slot and the fan, and find the actual failed part — not just the symptom.
2. Written quote
You get the fault and the price in writing on WhatsApp. Nothing is opened up for repair until you say yes. Decline and you pay nothing.
3. Component-level repair
We replace the failed port, chip or module under a microscope rather than swapping the whole motherboard — which is why it costs a fraction of a new console.
4. Tested before hand-over
Every repaired Switch 2 is charged, docked and played in handheld and TV mode with its Joy-Con 2s attached before it goes back to you, with a 6-month parts-and-labour warranty.

Common questionsSwitch 2 repair — frequently asked questions
How much does a Switch 2 repair cost?
Switch 2 parts are still limited and their prices change, so we quote every repair individually. The assessment is free, and you get the exact price in writing before any work starts. If you decline, you pay nothing.
Is my Switch 2 still under warranty?
Most Switch 2 consoles are still new enough to be under Nintendo's warranty. If the fault happened on its own, contact the store you bought it from first. Accidental damage, such as a cracked screen or a dropped console, usually isn't covered, and that's where we come in.
Can you replace a cracked Switch 2 screen?
Yes. We assess it for free, confirm the part and the price in writing, and only start once you approve the quote.
Can you fix Joy-Con 2 drift?
Yes. Joy-Con 2 sticks can wear and drift like earlier Joy-Cons. Try recalibrating first under System Settings → Controllers and Accessories. If the drift comes back, we replace the stick.
My Joy-Con 2 won't stay attached. What's wrong?
The magnetic connector or its contacts are usually damaged or dirty, or the release button is stuck. Bring the Joy-Con 2 and the console so we can test both sides of the connection.
My Switch 2 won't charge. What's wrong?
Leave it on the official charger for an hour, try the other USB-C port, then hold the power button for about 15 seconds. If it still won't charge, the USB-C port or the charging chip on the board has usually failed. Cheap third-party chargers and docks are the most common cause.
Why won't my old microSD card work for games?
The Switch 2 only runs games from microSD Express cards. A normal microSD card from an older Switch won't work for games, which isn't a fault with the console.
Will I lose my games and save data?
Screen, Joy-Con 2, battery and charging repairs don't touch your data. Saves live on the console's internal storage, so turn on Nintendo Switch Online cloud backup before the repair if you can. If a board-level repair puts data at risk, we tell you first.
How long does a Switch 2 repair take?
Most repairs take 3–5 working days after you approve the quote. Switch 2 parts sometimes have to be ordered in, which can take longer, and we'll tell you upfront.
Can you collect my Switch 2?
Yes. We collect and deliver across Gauteng for a flat R300 round trip via Eliz Courier, and arrange insured shipping with The Courier Guy anywhere else in South Africa. You can also drop it off at Shop 4, Silvercrest Centre, 11 Swemmer Rd, Silvamonte.
