PS5 Repair Johannesburg
PS5 Repair Johannesburg — PS5, PS5 Slim & PS5 Pro
Your PS5 powers on but the TV says "no signal". Or the fan sounds like a hairdryer and the console switches itself off halfway through a match. Or it simply died when the power came back after load shedding. These are the PS5 faults we see every week in Silvamonte, and almost all of them are fixed by replacing one failed part — the HDMI port, the HDMI chip, the power supply or the cooling — rather than the whole console. Free diagnostic, written quote, 6-month warranty.

PS5, PS5 Slim and PS5 Pro — what goes wrong on each
PS5 original (CFI-1000, 1100 & 1200)
Launched 2020 · disc and Digital Edition · removable side panels
The launch PS5 has now been in South African lounges for years, and three faults dominate: HDMI ports cracked by cable strain, consoles that run hot because the intake is clogged, and power faults after a surge. Later revisions (CFI-1100 and CFI-1200) are lighter with a smaller heatsink, so dust affects them sooner — a five-minute clean of the two dust catchers under the side panels makes a real difference.
Most common faults:
- Blue light, no picture — HDMI port or HDMI chip
- Fan roaring, shutting down mid-game
- White light then off, or dead after load shedding
- Disc Edition: grinding, 'cannot read disc' (CE-100005-6)
PS5 Slim (CFI-2000 series)
Launched 2023 · disc or Digital · detachable disc drive
The Slim is smaller and lighter, which is great until it gets carried between rooms with the HDMI cable still plugged in — that's how most Slim HDMI ports die. Its disc drive is a separate unit that clips onto the side and pairs with that specific console the first time it goes online, so a drive bought second-hand or moved from another console can refuse to work. We check pairing on every Slim we repair.
Most common faults:
- HDMI port and HDMI chip faults
- Detachable disc drive not detected or not pairing
- Overheating in the denser case
- Power faults after a surge
PS5 Pro (CFI-7000 & 7100 series)
Launched 2024 · 2TB · no disc drive in the box
The Pro is new enough that many are still covered by Sony's warranty — check that first. Out of warranty or with accidental damage, it gets the familiar PS5 faults: HDMI damage from cable strain and heat under heavy load. Pro boards are newer and costlier, so anything beyond the HDMI port, power supply or a service is quoted in writing after a free diagnostic.
Most common faults:
- HDMI port damage
- Fan noise and heat under load
- Add-on disc drive not pairing
- Power faults after a surge
PS5 faults we fix — and what each one usually means
No picture on the TV — HDMI port or HDMI chip?
Before you book: try another HDMI cable (the one in the box is HDMI 2.1 and matters for 4K/120Hz), another TV input, and boot into safe mode — hold the power button until the second beep, about 7 seconds. If safe mode shows a picture, the fault is a resolution or video setting, not hardware.
If there's still nothing, it's one of two parts. The HDMI port is soldered to the board; bent pins or cracked joints come from a cable pulled sideways or a console moved while plugged in. The HDMI chip behind it turns the console's video into an HDMI signal and usually dies after a power surge — the port can look perfect and still give you nothing. We inspect both under the microscope before quoting. Port from R1,800 · chip from R2,500.
Get a quote for this on WhatsApp →Overheating, loud fan, shutting down mid-game
The PS5 moves a lot of heat through one big fan and a dense heatsink. Dust and pet hair clog the fins, the fan spins harder, and eventually the console shuts down to protect itself. Clean the two dust catchers (under the side panels) and give it space to breathe — no closed cabinets, nothing on carpet.
If it still runs hot, the cooling needs a proper service. Sony uses liquid metal, not paste, between the processor and heatsink. It conducts heat brilliantly but is electrically conductive, so it's re-applied carefully with the original seal intact. Full service with liquid metal from R1,500.

A dead PS5 after load shedding or a storm is usually the internal power supply. If the supply tests fine, we move to the power-management chips and the southbridge, which controls power-on and the USB ports. A white light that flashes and dies, or a console that crashes going into rest mode, usually points the same way — although as a first test, try switching rest mode off for a few days.
Power supply from R2,450 · power IC from R2,600 · southbridge from R3,500. A surge protector or small UPS is the cheapest way to avoid all three.
Get a quote for this on WhatsApp →Disc drive problems (CE-100005-6, grinding, won't eject)
Error CE-100005-6 means the console can't read the disc. Clean the disc first and try another one. Grinding, discs that won't go in or won't eject, or every disc failing point to the drive mechanism or the laser.
On the Slim and Pro the drive is a detachable unit that pairs with your console online the first time it's connected — we always test it on your own console. Drive repair from R1,200 · laser from R1,850.
Get a quote for this on WhatsApp →Storage: internal SSD faults and M.2 expansion
The PS5's internal SSD is soldered to the motherboard, so a storage fault is a board-level repair — quoted after diagnosis. Running out of space is easier: every PS5 has an M.2 expansion slot, and we can fit and format a compatible NVMe drive while it's in for another repair. Ask for a quote with your preferred size.

- Back up if you can. PlayStation Plus uploads saves automatically; otherwise copy them to a USB drive under Settings → System → System Software.
- Note any error code (it starts with CE-) or take a photo of the screen or light pattern.
- Remove any disc from the drive, and bring the power cable. No need for controllers, stand or games unless they're part of the fault.
- After a surge, stop trying to switch it on. Repeated attempts can turn a power-supply repair into a board repair.
- You don't need to give us your PSN password. We test on our own account.
A photo of the label on the back (CFI- number) plus a line about what happens is usually enough for a starting price on WhatsApp.
How a PS5 repair works at iAssist
1. Free diagnostic
We test HDMI output, the power supply and power rails, temperatures under load, the SSD and the disc drive, and find the actual failed part — not just the symptom.
2. Written quote
You get the fault and the price in writing on WhatsApp. Nothing is opened up for repair until you say yes. Decline and you pay nothing.
3. Component-level repair
We replace the failed port, chip or module under a microscope rather than swapping the whole motherboard — which is why it costs a fraction of a new console.
4. Soak test & hand-over
Every repaired console runs a game under load before it goes back to you, then leaves with a 6-month parts-and-labour warranty.
Three ways to get your PS5 to us

Common questionsPS5 repair — frequently asked questions
How much does PS5 repair cost?
It depends on the fault. Starting prices: HDMI port from R1,800, HDMI chip from R2,500, full service with liquid metal from R1,500, power supply from R2,450, disc drive from R1,200 and laser from R1,850. The diagnostic is free and you get the exact price in writing before any work starts.
My PS5 has a blue light but no picture. Can you fix it?
Usually, yes. A pulsing blue light with no picture almost always means the HDMI port or the HDMI chip behind it has failed. First try another cable, another TV input and safe mode (hold power until the second beep). If there's still nothing, port repairs start from R1,800 and chip repairs from R2,500.
Do you repair the PS5 Slim and PS5 Pro?
Yes. The PS5 Slim (CFI-2000 series) has the same HDMI, overheating and power faults as the original, plus pairing issues with its detachable disc drive. For the PS5 Pro (CFI-7000 and 7100), check Sony's warranty first. Out of warranty, HDMI port repairs start from R1,800 and a liquid metal service from R1,500.
Is it safe to replace PS5 liquid metal?
Yes, when it's done properly. Liquid metal is electrically conductive, so we clean off the old compound, re-apply the correct amount and keep the original seal intact so nothing can reach nearby components. Every console is then load-tested before it goes back to you. A full service with liquid metal starts from R1,500.
My PS5 turns off by itself when gaming. What's wrong?
Most often it's overheating from dust in the heatsink and fan. Clean the dust catchers and move the console somewhere with free airflow. If it keeps happening, it needs a full service. If it switches off even when cool, or shows a white light then dies, the power supply or a board-level power fault is more likely, and that's diagnosed for free.
How do I know which PS5 I have?
Check the label on the back or underside: CFI-10xx, 11xx or 12xx is the original PS5, CFI-20xx is the PS5 Slim, and CFI-70xx or 71xx is the PS5 Pro. If it shows a picture, go to Settings, then System, System Software and Console Information.
Will I lose my games and saves?
Not from an HDMI, cooling, power supply or disc drive repair, because those don't touch the SSD. If your PS5 still works, PlayStation Plus cloud saves or a USB backup are a good precaution before any repair. If a board-level repair could affect storage, we tell you before we start.
How long does a PS5 repair take?
Most PS5 repairs are done within 3–5 working days after you approve the quote, including a soak test with a game running. Board-level faults can take longer, and we'll tell you upfront.
Is there a warranty on PS5 repairs?
Yes. Every PS5 repair carries a 6-month warranty on parts and labour.
Can you collect my PS5?
Yes. We collect and deliver across Gauteng for a flat R300 round trip via Eliz Courier, and arrange insured shipping with The Courier Guy anywhere else in South Africa. You can also drop it off at Shop 4, Silvercrest Centre, 11 Swemmer Rd, Silvamonte.
