Common MacBook faults we fix
Every fault below is covered by our free diagnostic. We use professional microsoldering equipment — most clients save significantly versus full board or screen replacement.
Screen damage / no display
Cracked Retina, dead pixels, backlight failure, Flexgate lines. All screen sizes and models.
Battery failure
Rapid drain, won't hold charge, "Service Recommended" warning, swollen battery lifting trackpad.
Liquid damage
Do not turn it on. Ultrasonic cleaning and component-level recovery — 90% success rate.
Keyboard issues
Sticky or non-registering keys, butterfly mechanism failure, full top case replacement.
Logic board failure
No power, random restarts, GPU artefacts, or system instability. We fix what others cannot.
Not charging / port failure
USB-C or MagSafe not charging, damaged port, intermittent connection. Port board repair.
Overheating / loud fan
Fan at full speed, thermal throttling, MacBook hot to touch. Thermal paste, heatsink, fan.
Slow performance
Failing SSD causing sluggish startup, frequent kernel panics. Upgrade or replacement.
Why component-level repair beats full replacement
Most MacBook failures are caused by a single failed component, not the entire board. Replacing everything when only one part has failed wastes money and risks your data.
Your data stays safe
Storage, files, and OS remain completely untouched. Full board replacement risks data loss and requires a fresh macOS installation.
Significantly cheaper
Repairing the specific failed component is 40–70% cheaper than replacing an entire logic board, screen assembly, or top case.
Faster turnaround
Screen and battery replacements often same-day. Most repairs completed within 48 hours. Complex board work within 2–3 business days.
We fix what others can't
We've recovered MacBooks other shops declared "beyond repair" using professional microsoldering equipment and component-level diagnostics.
Component-level repair vs full replacement

- Used for severe burn damage or shattered screens

MacBook Repairs — Frequently Asked Questions
Which MacBook models do you repair?
We repair all MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models ever released — from older Intel generations including 2011 and 2012 Retina models all the way through to the latest M4 Pro and M4 Max. This includes MacBook Air M1, M2, and M3, MacBook Pro M2, M3, and M4 in both 14-inch and 16-inch configurations, and all Intel MacBook models from 2016 through 2020. If your model is not listed simply WhatsApp us — we have not turned a MacBook away yet.
How much does MacBook screen repair cost in South Africa?
MacBook screen replacement at iAssist costs between R2,500 and R12,000 depending on your model and screen size. Older Intel MacBook Air and Pro screens sit toward the lower end while newer Liquid XDR ProMotion displays on MacBook Pro M3 and M4 models carry a premium. All pricing is confirmed after a free diagnostic — you receive a written fixed-price quote before we begin with no hidden fees. WhatsApp us your model and year for an instant estimate.
Can you repair MacBook liquid damage?
Yes — do not attempt to turn on a liquid-damaged MacBook as this causes further short-circuit damage. Bring it in as soon as possible. We use ultrasonic cleaning and component-level board repair to recover liquid-damaged MacBooks with a 90% success rate. Your data stays completely safe throughout the process. The sooner the device is treated the better the outcome — ideally within 24 hours of exposure.
Can you repair M1, M2, M3 and M4 MacBook logic boards?
Yes — and this is where iAssist stands apart from most repair centres in South Africa. Apple Silicon logic board repairs require chip-level micro-soldering expertise that most shops do not have and therefore turn away. Our technicians are trained in component-level board repair, meaning we diagnose and fix faults at chip level rather than replacing the entire board. This is significantly cheaper than an Apple out-of-warranty replacement and your data remains completely intact throughout.
My MacBook is running very hot and the fan is constantly at full speed — can you fix it?
Yes — this is one of the most common MacBook issues we see, particularly on Intel models. The cause is almost always dried-out thermal paste on the CPU and GPU combined with dust buildup in the cooling system. We fully disassemble the MacBook, clean the heatsink and fan, apply fresh premium thermal paste, and test under load before returning it. Most customers notice an immediate and significant improvement in temperature, fan noise, and overall performance after this service.
Can you fix MacBook Flexgate backlight failure?
Yes — Flexgate is a known design fault affecting MacBook Pro models from 2016 to 2018 where the backlight flex cable wears out over time causing a stage-light effect at the bottom of the screen or a complete backlight failure. We repair this at component level rather than replacing the entire display assembly, which significantly reduces the cost. If your MacBook screen dims at the bottom or goes dark when you open the lid past a certain angle, this is almost certainly Flexgate.
Do you replace MacBook batteries?
Yes — we replace MacBook batteries on all models using OEM-grade cells. If your MacBook is showing a Service Recommended battery warning, draining rapidly, shutting down unexpectedly at higher percentages, or has a swollen battery lifting the trackpad, a battery replacement is almost always the fix. Battery replacement costs between R1,500 and R4,000 depending on your model and most are completed the same day.
Can you upgrade my MacBook SSD or RAM?
SSD and RAM upgrades are available on older Intel MacBook models where the hardware allows it. On Apple Silicon MacBooks the RAM and SSD are integrated into the M-series chip and cannot be upgraded after purchase. However if your Apple Silicon MacBook has performance or storage issues we can diagnose whether a software, thermal, or board-level fix is possible. We will always tell you honestly what is and is not achievable for your specific model before any work begins.
Is the diagnostic really free?
Yes — completely free with no obligation. We assess your MacBook, identify the exact fault, and provide a written fixed-price quote. You only pay if you decide to proceed with the repair. There are no call-out fees, no assessment fees, and no hidden charges at any stage of the process.
Is my data safe during a MacBook repair?
Completely. Component-level repair leaves your storage, files, and operating system entirely untouched. We treat all customer data as strictly confidential and do not access or copy anything on your device. If a repair ever requires a software reinstall or factory reset we will always tell you before we begin — and we will always attempt data recovery first.
Do you offer collection and delivery for MacBook repairs across South Africa?
es — we offer door-to-door collection and delivery across the entire Gauteng province for R300. For customers outside Gauteng we work with The Courier Guy for nationwide collection and delivery. Simply WhatsApp us on 078 742 4769 and we will arrange everything from your door. We repair your MacBook at our Silvamonte workshop and return it directly to you fully repaired with a 6-month warranty.
What warranty do you offer on MacBook repairs?
All MacBook repairs at iAssist come with a 6-month warranty on both parts and labour. If the same fault reoccurs within that period we will fix it at no additional charge. You also receive a written fixed-price quote before any work begins so there are never any surprises. Our consistently high Google rating across hundreds of reviews reflects the standard we hold every repair to before it leaves our workshop.
