My M1 or M2 Mac mini won’t power on after load-shedding — can you fix it?
Often, yes. Power surges and abrupt outages frequently damage the power-management circuitry or short a power rail on the logic board. We diagnose at component level and repair the actual fault under a microscope, rather than defaulting to an expensive full-board replacement. Free diagnostic first.
Can the RAM or SSD be upgraded on an M1 or M2 Mac mini?
No. On all Apple Silicon Mac mini models both the RAM (Unified Memory) and SSD storage are integrated into the chip package. Neither can be upgraded after purchase by anyone. Configure with enough RAM and storage at point of purchase.
Can you recover data from an M1 or M2 with a failed board?
M-series data recovery requires restoring the logic board to a bootable state — the storage is integrated into the Apple Silicon package and encrypted to the Secure Enclave, so it cannot be read independently. We attempt board restoration first, then clone your data. If the main chip itself is dead, the storage cannot be recovered on its own — we tell you honestly which situation you are in at the diagnostic.
My M2 Thunderbolt port stopped working — fixable?
Yes — Thunderbolt controller IC failures are repairable at component level on M-series boards. A port not detecting drives or displays is almost always a controller fault rather than physical damage. Free diagnostic to confirm before quoting.
What about the M2 Pro and multiple monitors?
The M2 Pro adds extra Thunderbolt 4 ports and multi-display output through more complex power delivery. When a high-draw dock or several monitors cause the Mac to die or drop its display, the cause is usually a power-delivery controller or Thunderbolt line — we repair the specific IC rather than replacing the whole board. See the M2 Pro section above.
Is there an M3 Mac mini?
No — Apple skipped the M3 for the Mac mini, going from the M2 (2023) straight to the M4 (late 2024). If you bought your Mac mini in 2023 it is an M2; the newer small redesign is the M4.
My M2 makes a faint clicking noise — what is that?
Almost always an early-stage fan bearing fault. The M-series has a single fan; a defective bearing produces a periodic click that worsens with speed. Left alone the bearing fails and causes thermal throttling. Fan replacement is straightforward and inexpensive compared to the consequences.
