SMC reset — try this before bringing it in
- Intel Mac mini SMC reset: Shut down → unplug power cable → wait 15 seconds → plug back in → wait 5 seconds → press power button. Resets the System Management Controller without losing any data.
- If the Mac mini starts normally after an SMC reset, the hardware is fine — the fault was an SMC state corruption, common after power interruptions.
- If completely unresponsive after an SMC reset with a known-good power outlet, the fault is hardware — bring it in for a free diagnostic.
