Which Mac mini models can run Sonoma via OpenCore?
The Mac mini Late 2012 (Macmini6,x) and Late 2014 (Macmini7,1) both support macOS Sonoma via OpenCore Legacy Patcher. The 2012 natively maxes out at Catalina. The 2014 natively maxes out at Big Sur. OCLP removes Apple's restriction and allows a clean Sonoma installation on both models.
Does the Mac mini 2018 need OpenCore?
No — the Mac mini 2018 runs macOS Sonoma natively. If you want to run Sequoia on a 2018 Mac mini, OCLP would be required, but Sonoma natively is recommended for stability. M-series Mac minis run the latest macOS natively and do not need OCLP.
Why do I need an SSD for the OpenCore upgrade?
macOS Sonoma on a spinning hard drive is unusable — boot times of 5+ minutes and constant beachballing. An SSD brings this to under 20 seconds. iAssist can fit the SSD first and then perform the OCLP upgrade in the same visit for a total of R5,300 (R3,800 SSD + R1,500 OCLP).
Why must my data be wiped?
OCLP requires a clean macOS installation. In-place upgrades using OpenCore frequently result in boot failures and system instability. A clean wipe and fresh install is the only reliable method. Back up all your data before dropping the Mac mini off, or ask us about our separate data migration service.
Will everything work after the OpenCore upgrade on my Mac mini?
Yes — Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, iCloud, ethernet, and USB all work normally on the Mac mini via OCLP. The Mac mini has no GPU-accelerated display of its own (it outputs to an external monitor), so GPU root patches are simpler than on an iMac. Most OCLP installations on Mac mini are very stable.
How long does the Mac mini macOS upgrade take?

Can the Mac mini 2012 or 2014 use Apple Intelligence features via OCLP?
No — Apple Intelligence requires Apple Silicon (M1 or later) and is not available on Intel Macs regardless of macOS version. OCLP restores macOS compatibility and keeps your machine current for everyday use, but hardware-dependent features like Apple Intelligence and Universal Control remain unavailable on Intel hardware.
